Cabo or Maui?

My FI and I are planning our honeymoon for late October/ early november and trying to decide between Maui or San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. We went to Hawaii last year to Oahu, but never been to Maui which I've heard is amazing. But don't think there are any all-inclusive options on the island.
A friend recommended Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, which looked really nice and is all-inclusive just not sure about Mexico for the honeymoon that time of year.

I am a flight attendant, so we will be using my benefits to get there. Our budget is about $4000 for at least 5 nights, but there is wiggle room.
Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!!

Re: Cabo or Maui?

  • Cabo and Maui are comparing apples and oranges, in my opinion.

Do you like nice, soft, swimmable beaches? Not finding that in Cabo.

If an all inclusive is a must? Not finding that in Hawaii.

We went to Cabo last summer. They have a fun downtown/nightlife/shopping district, plenty of excursions you can do, and all inclusives are my favorite part of vacation - unlimited food and drinks? Yes please. It was also a really affordable vacation.

I haven't been to Hawaii in recent years but if you search around on the honeymoon boards, you'll find that it is often quite expensive, and there is certainly no all inclusive resort there.

Just depends what you are ultimately looking for on the honeymoon. Where are you flying from? That would factor in to my decision too, as far as flight times go.

  • Your dollar will be a lot farther is Cabo than it will in Maui

  • We got married in early November and went to Cabo for our HM, and Maui for one of our anniversaries, so the weather in both places that time of year should be great.

However...Cabo is in no way comparable to Hawaii IMO.  I enjoyed our HM because we stayed in an awesome hotel.  It was very high end (not AI) and since we wanted the focus of our HM to just sit by the pool or in our room and relax, it was great.  When we did venture off property, I wasn't really impressed.  The shopping/restaurants were just okay, the excursions weren't really that great, etc.  I had a great time, but I have no desire to go back.

Hawaii, on the other hand, is one of my all time destinations.  Because Hawaii itself is so beautiful, when we go, we aren't very particular about how nice the room is because we typically plan to be outside most of the time anyways, so that leaves a lot of wiggle room in accommodations.  We usually stay in a condo/timeshare property, which is my favorite because we can cook if we want to, but it also feels more 'homey' and not like I'm just in a generic hotel room.  There's a lot more to do, better places to eat (LOVED Mama's Fish House on Maui), and so much better beaches/scenery.
  • Want to save money? All-inclusive? Cabo.

Want luxury, peaceful, high end? Maui
