Hotel Room Blocking (AND checks!!!)

Soooo excited to say that we finally locked down our date and put down deposits with Flamingo, Maggiano's, and B & W photography!! Now it all feels so real! :)

I'm curious how people decided where and how they went about blocking rooms? How far ahead of time is this usually done? I have found some group rate websites, but I wasn't sure if those are scammy or not. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Hotel Room Blocking (AND checks!!!)

  • We picked Aria because we love that hotel, we wanted an MGM resort and they don't hold you responsible for your unsold rooms (some do). I would contact the hotel's directly about room blocks and ask!

  • Thank you! I know we definitely don't want to be held responsible for unsold rooms... That's great information to have!

  • we put down a reservation for Flamingo in January we are getting married in July, i'm not encouraging people to use the block rooms, but the rate they gave us, the flamingo website is cheaper and southwestvacations is cheaper than both

  • We chose aria, because that's is where we are having our wedding and they gave is a great rate with a minimum of 10 rooms. They don't hold is responsible for unsold rooms. I would start by calling the hotel where you wedding is to see if they will give your group some kind of deal. If we get the 10 rooms booked we get a free upgrade to a suite for the bride and groom
  • We chose Flamingo, we loved that it has a gazebo. I wanted an outside wedding at home so when I saw the garden area at flamingo I knew it would work out perfect. Their packages fit in good with our budget and left room for upgrades too!

  • For those who blocked at Aria, was there a discount code or something for the guests to use, or were they the regular rate for the rooms?  Thanks!

  • @dixiechik19 they give you a discount code for your group and then they have until the cut off date to reserve at that discount. The cut off date is one month before. I am at Aria too.

  • Thanks @Rosebubbly!  How far in advance did you block your rooms?  My wedding is next April, but I want my guests to feel free to make their travel arrangements at their leisure.

  • There is a las vegas travel site you can use to do an RFP for blocks of 10 rooms or more.  You can select the specific ones you want to respond.  It's very cool, I've gotten pricing from 8 different casinos, some close to the ceremony others close to our other activities.  The challenge I have now is deciding which one I want to use!  I'm really struggling with that.

@dixechik19 our wedding is next March and we just got our room blocks/contract/group code last week, so our guests could book right now if they wanted. We wanted it all set up before our STDs go out this summer, so guests can book at their leisure if they decide they're attending.

  • @dixiechik19 we booked ours this month for November. There's no harm in doing it too early because they're held aside for you till your cutoff date and your price is locked in even if rates go up. Of course, the price could always go down too depending on your dates but then I'd just have ppl book outside the block. I also did a lower cost hotel, planet hollywood, for anyone wAnting to spend less on room and food options

  • We blocked our hotel rooms through the Total Rewards hotels, and the booking agent was really helpful and set us up. We blocked rooms at two hotels and it was super smooth!
