*HELP! Anniversary Plans!*

So today is my H and my "dating" anniversary :). We usually celebrate every year with dinner, or a movie or something, but this year I decided I would plan something specific as a surprise. (Which will take place this weekend). My H and I are outdoorsy people, and I was hoping to plan a day doing fun things like that!

So here was my idea! My H has never been horseback riding, so I thought that might be something new/fun! Then, we could do a hike to the spot where we got engaged. (Which was also the same hiking area that we had our first date as a couple). I was thinking something like that, pack some food, and maybe even do a camping thing overnight. The only downside to this whole idea, is that this entire week, and entire weekend, is forecasted for nothing but rain! So that brought me to PlanB. I was thinking we could do a drive into the next city or two over. Check out some of the local attractions, restaurants, etc, and possibly stay the night. The downside to this plan, is we can't bring our dogs--and who would normally be able to watch them, can't. So now both plans are kinda at a standstill, & I likely need to think of something else as a replacement!

Does anyone have any unique/fun ideas?? I was so excited to plan something different, and have a special/fun weekend together, and now I have no idea what to do! It doesn't help that we're a day away from the weekend! Any suggestions would be *greatly* appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

  • Here are a few ideas of things I like to do to have a fun weekend at home:
    – cook a new recipe. Does your H like to cook? Maybe you could cook something together.
    – Try exploring a tourist attraction near where you live that you haven't been to yet.  Fi and I live near the  statue of liberty and we keep meaning to visit.
    – Can you go to a concert or sports game?
    – is there a craft or cooking class somewhere nearby that you can take?

Can you find a romantic B&B near some good hiking trails? As long as it's not thundering and lightning, rain shouldn't spoil some good hiking plans.

Maybe dinner at a new restaurant in your town? Drinks and dinner. And maybe a concert or show? Cooking something together like JC suggested would be fun, FI doesn't cook but he likes to make pizza together.

Do you have a fondue maker? Maybe have a wine and fondue night at home!

  • Maybe a cooking class? or one of those painting and BYO wine classes? I almost did that for FI and our for valentines day. I'm not sure where you live but maybe going hiking or taking a day trip somewhere to hike/explore a new area?

  • Along the cooking together lines, is there a farmer's market nearby? A trip there and then cooking all the fresh food together could be fun.

Thanks ladies! We 'may' still have luck in finding a dog-sitter, so I'm still hopeful! If so, @ElcaB, the B&B thing/hiking is totally our style!

@JCBride2014We did the cooking thing tonight actually! We planned to spend tonight together at home, and then celebrate this weekend with something less low-key. We tried 2 new recipes, and made dinner together after work. It was super delish, and fun to actually have room to cook together, without falling all over each other. (We just bought our first home in Dec, & the place we rented before, had a really narrow & small kitchen). So we were excited to have the room! :)

@cmfarr - I totally love the idea of going to the farmer's market, buying fresh/local ingredients, and cooking it up at home sometime. It's not so much what I was thinking for this weekend, but I definitely think that's a great date idea! We live within walking distance to the farmer's market as well, so that's something I totally want to try! :)

A couple of you mentioned the cooking classes, & we do have them, but they're not something you can just pop into. One of those things you need to sign up for in advance! (The joys of living in a smaller/remote city)!

I like the fondue idea, @pinkcow13! We have one of those fondue pots kicking around here somewhere! Dinner/drinks might be fun to start off with, and then come home for some late night fondue/drinks. If outdoors stuff isn't in the cards, this sounds like a good backup to me!

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! Wish me luck in making this work! (Lol). :)

     Happy "almost" Friday!
