Going to look at gowns Friday.

Hi ladies. I'm Lee. I'm having a vow renewal (no, not a PPD) for my 10 year anniversary. It's going to be a formal affair but as I mentioned, in no way a PPD. No firsts, no lying, no gifts, just a nice formal renewal of vows after all we've been through adn to include our children and then a nice party for our friends and family afterwards...you get the idea. However I am wearing a gown. I'm thinking a nice cap sleeved mermaid style type thing (not a big white wedding dress). So I'm going with a girlfriend to "poke around" this Friday to a very fancy bridal store here in Orlando. I'm a big girl, that's just the way it is. Will I be crap out of luck? I'm a size 18 or 16W in street clothes so no idea what I am in gowns. Should I even bother going, will they have anything for me to try on? :(

I would go. I am sure you will find something you love

I'm in this size range as well. Most of the sample gowns were 10-12 range and they were able to get me in NEARLY every dress i tried on. The exception was one that had a lace back that would've busted at the seams. Go for it, if you try on 1 or 2 and feel completely uncomfortable go somewhere else.

Call the store, tell them your street size and ask them if they have samples that would fit you. I went to one smaller boutique, and most of their samples were a size 8 (which would be a 4-6 street size!). I couldn't get those on. It was very discouraging. And I would never buy a dress that I could get partway on.....I need to be able to see it fully on. I found another salon that is known for having a large selection of plus size samples. It was a much better experience!

  • i second the op about calling and make sure you ask how many gowns they have i went to a bridal salon that said they had plus well it was lower end of pls 16s 18s very few 20s and 24s dont even think they had anything in a 28 or 30 my bridal size is a 24/26 depending on the manufacture. street size 20-22

the salon i did find my gown at carried normal sizes and plus and she had so many gowns in larger sizes to try on i tried over 15 gowns
  • OMG I didn't call because we first went to David's and spent a ton of time there, so the fancy bridal store we just did a walk in. like a previous poster said, their samples were size 8-12. So they way I had to "try on" was holding it up to my half naked body. Bwahahaha. It was awesome. But it didn't matter, because the least expensive dress they had in the story was $3,775. I was floored at the prices.
