Wedding Woes

The...hell?

Dear Prudence,
I am an adult male attracted to physically developed young women between the ages of 11 and 17. I had never engaged in sexual activity with them and have been celibate. I have spoken to many adult women who as teens were in a relationship with men who were 10 or more years their senior. All of them enjoyed it and had never experienced any trauma. Would it be wrong to pursue a relationship with an exceptionally mature, physically developed young woman who prefers an older lover?

17 is attractive, but not 18? Oh FFS. I have no words.

  • He never listed his age, but I'm guessing 50+.

  • Right, no trauma expressed by these women.  But let's see what their relationships are like now if they still don't realize that was predatory.

Yeeesssss...that was my thought also.  Because 17-year-olds look just so much different from 18-year-olds?  Or a young looking 23-year-old?

No question he is a pedophile but, even though he didn't use that word in his letter, it sounds like he at least realizes it.  Hopefully he continues to recognize he serious shortcomings and not act upon them.  Creepers.

Glad I'm not the only one! It's one thing to say prepubescent, but that's a HUGE range with such a great amount of physical changes, he's probably focusing on the under-age factor and not the physicality of it.

Ah yes, the cultural script for this predatory type of behavior being a variant of "flattery" for the girl.

About two weeks ago one of NPR's weekend shows had this fascinating interview with a young man, I believe 19 years old, who was a pedophile and created a support group for other pedophiles. They were very strict about not allowing anyone in who had ever acted on their urges, and instead focused on trying to help each other cope with the fact that they had attractions that were not natural and could be very harmful to others.

It really was an incredible insight into the mind of a pedophile. This guy, at 19, already recognized what he was and knew that there was no way he could ever act on it. But at the same time, without having any attraction towards the adult body, he had more or less decided to be celibate for his whole life. This guy would be best to follow in that young man's footsteps and focus his energies away from young girls.
