Ugh. Help me get motivated. [nwr]

I'm taking an online class that I'm super unmotivated about. This is week 7/8, so I'm nearly done.

If I turn in nothing for the rest of the class, I'll end with a C. I've calculated my grades and there is NO way that I could end with an A. But if half ass my final projects (2) and get just a 50% then I'll still get a decent B. But then I'm choosing to half-ass a project. Basically just jam it out in 10 minutes without caring if what I write really makes sense, as opposed to spending an hour and actually researching things and making a well-thought-out (or decently-thought-out) writing.

Thoughts? What would you do?

  • why pay for a class if you are just going to half ass it?

It's a General Education requirement to get my bachelor's degree. But it's only like $70, and I think by just getting the credit as a C I feel like I've gotten $70 of value from it. It's just whether I want to push myself for the B or relax and get the B.

What are you planning to do after your Bachelor's Degree? I too thought this about some of my undergrad classes and then when it came time to apply for my Master's, well that C didn't look so good.

It would be such a shame if that C was the difference between you graduating with honors and not.

Suck it up, spend the 10 minutes banging out a semi-coherent project and take the B!

:-) I'm right there with you and basically bribed myself into writing my last paper for the semester- I got a whole bottle of wine and a chocolate bar all to myself!

It won't be. And I find it unlikely I'd even attempt honors.

ETA: it won't also because I won't end with the C. I'll end with a B regardless of how much effort I put into my last two assignments (I'm assuming that I won't get lower than 50% on them).

I want to work in corporate office. I have retail management experience, but not direct HR experience. I'm not sure if I'll go for the full BA, or if I'm just going to finish with a certificate or AA.

But no Masters most likely. Can't really imagine being interested in working where one would be required, and it's not something I'd probably do for fun.

    Sometimes there are classes you
have to take and don't give a rat's ass about or actually need in reality.  Intro to Philosophy was my 8 AM nap sophomore year of college.

As a teacher, please do at least attempt to turn something presentable in. Getting half assed assignments from students we KNOW could do better is incredibly frustrating and saddening. ETA: Really, it'll only take you an hour each to do a good job on your projects? That's peanuts. Nothing. Nada. What else were you going to do with that time? Grow up and do your work.

  • Finish strong. It will help keep your GPA up. I screwed up a class or two in the beginning of my college career and I greatfully regret it now. They both dragged down my GPA. You may not see yourself going back to college now, but it could happen. You don't know what the future holds for you.
  • No one regrets putting in too much effort. It's slacking off that you end up regretting later.

I would make a day out of working on the projects and try to make them decent enough.

Unfortunately, if I had a full day I'd probably do the same. Darn inventory prep at work making me dwindle down my use-able hours!
  • I don't know what type of work experience you have already, but in a lot of cases, unless your work experience is significant, grades matter.  I work for a consulting firm, and we don't even look at resumes with GPAs under a certain number.  And that's not just for undergrad-even if someone has 2-4 years of work experience, unless it's highly related or specialized, that GPA could matter.
