Church music recs, please!

Hi ladies- we are trying to pick out music for church and are not feeling very excited about any of it. For those of you who had a full Catholic mass (or anyone else with good ideas!), I would appreciate your suggestions- what songs did you use?

Re: Church music recs, please!

  • Processional was Canon in D.

Hymns were 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Prayer of St. Francis.'

    Recessionary was 'Ode to Joy.'

Mass parts were Mass of Creation and the sung 'Gloria.'

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Our processional was O God Beyond All Praising.  We wanted more of a traditional hymn, not a typical bridal march.  And we just had one long processional song... nothing different for when I walked down.

Our offertory hymn was Prayer of St. Francis and communion hymn was Pange Lingua (in English) because it's written by St. Thomas Aquinas, my patron saint.

I'll be honest, I don't even remember our recessional!  I'd have to go find my program.

  • Seating of Mothers- “River Flows in You,” Yiruma

Entrance of Bridal Party-“Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Bach

Entrance of Bride- "Canon in D,” Pachelbel

    Communion- How beauitful (Twila Paris)

    Recessional- Wedding march

  • Oh, I forgot:

Seating of my mother/DH's grandmother was 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,' by Handel (Mama HisGirl's choice), and BM processional was Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary.

The only restriction I had for the prelude music was no 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring,' on account of I hate that song with a passion.

The organist just played whatever he wanted, which worked for me.

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba is pretty. Really, no Jesu? I don't mind it.

Also, I  like Trumpet Voluntary. Helpful suggestions :)

Don't ask me why no Jesu. I just have never, ever liked that song. Like, ever. My mother was kind of upset, and I was like, 'Really? You got to pick all the other pre-ceremony music. Let this one go.'

DH's grandmother didn't like 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,' and made that known to me. I was like, 'Well, Mama HisGirl does, and MOB trumps Grandmother of Groom, so she gets to pick it.' BSC granny said, 'If you don't change it, I won't be seated during that processional.' I said, 'OK, then you can be seated as a regular guest and not anyone special. Suits me fine. Your choice.'

She was seated during the processional.

I LOVE 'Trumpet Voluntary.' and would have considered that for my own processional, except my brother REALLY wanted to play the processional for me and my Dad, and that song does NOT lend itself to the guitar. His version of 'Canon in D,' however, was fabulous.

  • Mother's entrance-  Ave Maria

    Bridesmaids- Canon in D

Bride's Entrance- Processional from The Sound of Music

For the responsorial psalm we would like to have I Will Praise Your Name

For the gifts we would have to have played:I Have Loved You

For The Communion Song: Panis Angelicus

For The Exit Recessional we would like: Trumpet Tune by Clarke

We're still brainstorming but FI loves Sheep May Safely Graze and I love Jesu, so Sheep will be BP entrance and Jesu will be mine. You might also think about asking to have Pachelbel's played at a faster pace--often it's played much more slowly than it was written to be which, IMO, can make it sound melancholy.
  • @amakayeb me too! Our cantor for the mass loves it as well so that helps too!
