Wedding-planning brag!

I don't want to be THAT bride, so I'm bragging here instead of posting on Facebook.  We just found our wedding photographer and he is awesome!  He was the fourth photographer we met with and he is our favorite, plus the least expensive we saw.  Double win!  And he includes engagement photos PLUS all-day wedding coverage for less than most other photographers wanted for the minimum 8 hours wedding coverage.

We also got our music nailed down two weeks ago.  We splurged on music: string trio at ceremony, jazz duet at cocktail hour, then an awesome DJ team for the dancing part.  We figured this is a big part of the energy and how much fun everybody has, so it needs to be good.

Basically the only big thing I have to do now is get my dress later this month, and then at some point this summer we should find a florist.  That's it for the major stuff!  This is starting to feel actually real and we are so excited.

Anybody else feeling really productive lately?

Re: Wedding-planning brag!

  • Yay for you!! Time for a big glass of wine! I had my weekend of productivity a couple weekends ago, but I need to get some details done tomorrow! What a huge relief!!
  • Congrats- that's an awesome feeling, especially about the photographer. I love checking things off the list.

I ordered our invites and response cards last night and FI and I finally found a Rabbi to co-officiate our wedding! It's been a little tricky finding a rabbi who will co officiate with a Presbyterian minister and work together to create the kind of ceremony we want, so that was a huge relief!

Tomorrow I'm going to check out a potential venue for our rehearsal dinner and reserve the chuppah. I've been pretty lazy about the planning for awhile so it's time to kick it back into gear.

Sounds like you're well on your way! Booking an awesome photographer and great music is HUGE!!!

45 days to go and I am definitely feeling the pressure! I'm pinning down the details with regard to decor, timing, song selections, etc. I'm hoping to work on table numbers and finalize our music this weekend!

  • That's super exciting!

We finally found a officiant that we like, got our wedding bands (really far in advance, but FI needs to send his back to be resized, so it's good that we have so much time), sent out Save the Dates, finished our wedding website (it's somewhat hilarious, we were drinking Manhattans while making it- so there's that.), and registered (we have even FINALLY found silverware that we like!).  Oh! And my dress is in, and I got to try it on the other day and I love it even more than when I first got it!

    Yay for productivity!

Yay!!! Congrats! Finding a great photographer is HUGE.

Slow going over here, but I'm SUPER proud of myself for making a couple of phone calls today. Had to schedule a hair cut for my partner. He's still skeptical that paying $30 at a fancy hair salon where he has to make an appointment is better than paying $15 at a crappy barber when he walks in every 3-4 months and gets his hair cut by whoever's available. His hair looked great when I finally got him to go to the salon. When it started getting too long, it at least was growing out evenly. Whenever he goes to the barber, they cut it too short and so unevenly ... and he always complains!

Anyway, he's only been to the salon once and says he doesn't notice the difference ... but when I asked where he wanted to get his hair cut before our engagement pictures at the end of this month, he said salon :-p

Congrats!! As an OMH, my productivity tonight was limited to going to a screening of a documentary and meeting one of my favourite authors.

  • Decided to move the wedding back a year (I want more time to save up for it) so no wedding stuff ATM, but I recently moved into a new place so I've been crazy productive with that.  I did a series of three paintings for over my bed, because I didn't bother with a headboard but also didn't like that chunk of empty space, and another painting to brighten up a big blank wall in the living room.  This is actually the first time I have even touched a paintbrush or actually been motivated to finish any artwork since I quit art school a few years ago.  So while it's not the best stuff I've done, I'm very happy to have gotten out of that creative rut.

I also put a nifty backsplash on the entertainment center so that I can hide the wires behind it, and the same thing with a bookcase to make it less dull.  I drew all over a few plain plates with a paint pen, but it washes off (I didn't want to ruin the plate with something permanent if I deeded I didn't like it!) so I plan on buying some nicer ceramic pens to do the rest of the set with.  I also made a few throw pillows and a pouf with some scrap fabric.

I also cut my hair off last week (Bye stupid long hair that was constantly in annoying knots) and re-dyed it just now, so now it's shoulder length, but still magenta and plum.

Here is my living room elephant:

  • Yay. Awesome! We are still working on the photog. I think we're close, but I do want to make sure we get the best bang for our buck, so I'm going to research some more. I'm hoping to have one locked down within the next couple of weeks!

  • I brought my dress home from alterations a few days ago and seeing it hanging in the closet makes it seem so so real and close!

  • @phira I wish I could get FI to set foot in a salon! We have compromised, though. Instead of getting his hair butchered at the barber for $10, I cut his hair. I don't do too bad a job.
  • @phira My fiance is a manly man- callus hands, long beard, t shirts. He's had a deep blackhead in the middle of his forehead for a year now and I couldn't care less about it. But he actually suggested we go get couples facials before the wedding so they can extract it. I was like "are you an alien, what have you done with my fiance?" hahaha But I will gladly take him to get it done!

@jcbride2015 Last year I was in my friend's wedding and she used a giant black frame for her table number list. I had brought it home from the reception and thought I returned it to her a few weeks later. This year I asked if I can borrow it for mine and she said she didn't have it anymore. I randomly found it in my guest room closet last weekend!! Score! I'm going to put pictures of us in each city we've been to as the table names so I can basically put it all together now and then just list the people on it after RSVP time.

  • Yayyyy!!!!

Last weekend I picked up my wedding dress, it's so pretty! Yesterday I ordered a sash and hair clip so minus the undergarments, my wedding dress stuff is almost done!

I have to put about 10-15 more Swarovski crystals on my veil and that'll be done.

We jumped on Vistaprint's 40% off sale and got our STDs.

Next month we're paying our big-ticket vendors (venue, photographer, DJ) since we're under budget, all of these vendors are asking for 25%, we're paying 50% so I'm less stressed. We might meet with the baker too, but I'm not worried since she'll probably be busy for June. In June I'm picking out BM dresses and FI is going to pick out his attire and GM's attire.

Over Memorial Day weekend, my dad and FI are going to work on an escort card tray, I'll just have to paint it when we get back home.

This summer I'm going to work on a lot of DIY stuff: petal aisle runner, centerpieces, escort card table decor, sweetheart table decor, table numbers.

  • Woohoo! Photographer and entertainment were huge for me too. Wanted a natural light, photojournalistic-style photographer and I LOVE HER. And dueling pianos for entertainment, yahoo! (comes with DJing too.) I had crammed all my productivity into Jan-Mar so now we've moved onto details... this week we confirmed the menus for hors d'oeuvres and entrees, and last night I started playing around with the actual setup of centerpiece pieces I've been collecting.

  • Woot!! You are on a roll! We've moved onto details now...dress alteration, mailing invites later this month, finalizing menu & decor, yada yada yada. Cheers to productivity :)

@jenna8984 Ugh, I HATE those deep blackheads. I have a couple ... that are not on my face ... and I cannot get one of them out for the life of me. The other one I got out, but the pore is all, "Wah wah wah" because it was stuck open for so long, so it gets re-clogged all the time.

  • @peaseblossom55 We went with Bryan Sargent (link).  We really like photo style and his personality, plus his prices are super reasonable.  He works out of NYC but he'll go to the surrounding areas, too.

Wow, you guys are really productive, too!  @Haileydancingbear that elephant is awesome!
