HELP- Reception ideas!!

Hi..:) This is the terrace where we'll have the reception. As you can see, it has plants hanging from the ceiling, so my common sense tells me the centerpieces should be low, but other than that I'm coming blank. I was thinking metal and crystal vases with season flowers for a vintage feel, and lots of little candles,(like the pic) but I don't really know. And what about the ceiling? The reception will start at 9PM, so candelabra? lamps?
Any ideas for the bridge and fountain?
PLEASE HELP! I'm afraid to make it look tacky by putting too much stuff.
Thank you so much in advance..:)

  • Definitely low centerpieces.  Honestly with that much greenery hanging from the ceiling i'd skip flower centerpieces and do some nice candle arrangements.  Also could you hang tiny lights from the ceiling somehow?

I like the candle arrangements idea, I had something like this in mind too. Not a flower centerpiece per se; a candle arrangement with only a few flowers in little vases.

About the lights, I don't know.. :( it may seem like the ceiling is very low, but it isn't. The pots are hanging by a long cord to the "real" ceiling, so I'm not sure there's a way to hang the tiny lights, I will check though, it would look awesome. :) So far I was thinking mason jars with candles, maybe candelabra, or vintage hanging lamps (with long cords from the ceiling).

(Sorry about any grammar or spelling mistakes:s.  I'm not a english native speaker but I don't mind making a fool of myself if it means getting good advice :] ) thank you so much!

Ugh....no mason jars! Use some other kind of low vase or maybe a bowl with floating flowers and candles?

Ok  mason jars! I'll think of more options for the ceiling...
I think I've seen those, with a mirror for vase, and small bowls with floating candles and/or flowers, and small candles all around? That should work too.. they look beautiful and I love the way they reflect the light.
    Thank you...:)

  • I agree no mason jars. So overdone. I got some of these- maybe you could use fishing line (clear string) and hang these from the ceiling- see picture. I bought them here off the classified board but they sell them on Amazon.
With the natural beauty of the bridge and fountain I honestly would not do a thing to those.

  • I agree with PPs about the low centrepieces with candles. As for the bridge, I would suggest either leave it alone or maybe wrap some soft white lights around it it

Very pretty venue.  I would do low centerpieces with some sort of light in them.  I would not decorate the bridge or the fountain. Some other pictures of centerpieces:

I LOVE THEM and they should be easy enough to hang from the ceiling...  I will ask local vendors if they have something similar.... thank you so much!

Thank you, it really is beautiful, there're trees and palm trees everywhere, cobblestone paths and a pond... I don't have pictures of that though, will post later.
I love the 2nd and 3rd pic, those are the colors we want, soft golds, off whites, and pale pink. SO those are kind of perfect... thanks..:)

  • How much space is there between the floor and the plants?  I feel claustrophobic just looking at that picture!

8 feet, give or take... but the angle isn't right... it feels way more open when you're there. It the pic the greenery looks like a big bush hanging from the ceiling, but they're more like vines (I don't know the english name of the plant, we call them "telefonos", but I think is some kind of philodendron. I'll ask for more pictures (the venue is in my hometown and I don't live there).
But you're right, it could easily become claustrophobic or cluttered  if there's too much stuff going on, that's why I'm asking for opinions on the deco..:)

  • It'd be awesome if you did candley centerpieces and then sparkly things hanging from the plants so they picked up the light. Before you can really make any plans though you need to know what you're allowed to do by the venue. You should also ask if they have pictures of how other events have been decorated. You might get some good ideas!

Yeah, 'm totally going for the candle centerpieces with only a few flowers, instead of big flower arrangements, and I'm loving the idea of the crystal bubbles hanging from the plants to reflect the light. My family owns the venue so we can do pretty much anything we want (as long as it doesn't damage Grandma's plants LOL).
The terrace has never been used for an evening wedding before, so I don't really have examples on how to decorate it for an evening event. :( I'm trying to get ideas from similar venues, but the ceiling is so different from anything that I've seen before that I was really lost. Thanks to all of you I'm starting to get perspective. I'm not really a very creative person, I have no eye for this kind of thing, I just want to keep it pretty and classy,  so I really appreciate all you ideas and comments..:)

  • Christmas lights up among the plants and/or around the columns might be a good non-flammable option that'll get you more light and sparkles. This is going to be so pretty!

I haven't thought about the columns!! I'm going down there in a couple of weeks, I'll get to see what can and can't be done with the plants among other things. I'm less antsy about all of it because I now have a clearer idea of what to do... thank you! I really hope it will end up looking pretty..:) I'm so excited!
