Let's play dress up

At the end of the month my grandma is coming here to go dress shopping with me (squee!) but the more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea of dropping $1k on a dress. I want something kind of soft and simple, and I've found some online that I really like, but I need help narrowing down the options before I order a few dresses to try on. Which are your favorites? What kind of accessories would look good?

I really love #3 and #5, I think strapless dresses are gorgeous and I love the simplicity of the #5 dress. You could dress it up with a sash or a really pretty statement necklace.

I LOVE #1 & #2, with #4 close behind. I think #2 definitely needs a sash or belt of some kind. I just love those styles so much.

I like 2, 3, and 5. I'm with @southernpeach89: 5 could be easily "customized." I've got a dress that's really intricate and complicated and everything, and I'll tell ya, it's been really frustrating trying to figure out what will "go" with it. Not only that, but because it's such a fancy dress, I feel like my hair, make-up, and jewelry have to be similarly fancy. Like, I was planning on my make-up being pretty natural (very "me, but prettier"), but now I feel like I my eye make-up has to be a little dramatic to go with the dress.

With a simpler dress, you can basically decide for yourself what kind of look you want, after the fact. That said, if you like a more complicated dress, or one that speaks for itself, go for it! Just be aware that the dress might end up dictating some of your other attire.

I love #2 and #3. If I was going to pick out my dress all over again, I'd go with either of those.

The Jenny Yoo dress (#5) is my absolute favorite. I think a sash/belt would be gorgeous on this or leave it simple and go with a chunky necklace.

Next would have to be a tie between the Ruth Gown (#1) and Annabelle Dress (#3).

I'm a fan of #3 and #4 personally. I like #5 as long as you'd dress it up with a belt or a gorgeous necklace or something to give it more personality.

Have you looked at Ann Taylor's wedding gowns at all? Many of theirs are also under $1000. A neighbor's daughter wore one for her wedding a few years ago and she looked beautiful!

I personally love dresses 2, 5 and 3 - in that order. I'd have to see how they look on YOU of course though. I also love the first 2 Ann Taylor dresses @LaPeanut1018 posted as well.

Have you considered looking at a 2nd hand shop? I found my dress at a consignment shop downtown. It was brand new with tags still on it and it only cost me $300. Perhaps I was just lucky...but might be worth a look if you're trying to save your budget for other things.

My dress was not cheap, but it was under $1000 because it's an evening gown, not a wedding gown. Bridesmaids dresses in white or ivory will also be less expensive, although they also tend to be less interesting, since they're not meant to stand out as much as a wedding dress.

I love all of them except #5. It's too simple to me, not that I'm a fancy person or anything. I actually tried on #2. It didn't look as "modest" as it does in that picture and I really liked it. If you like them all I'd try to try them all on- you never really know what things are actually going to look like in person and on your particular shape.

ETA: Oh and I loved that #2 was only $600! I like the Annabelle because it's inexpensive but it didn't have enough..i don't know..wow for me? For my own wedding dress I mean. Maybe because I know it's primarily a bridesmaid dress? You could love it though!

@LaPeanut1018 thanks! I had totally forgotten that Ann Taylor did wedding stuff but those dresses are really pretty.

@Allusive007 YES! I have appointments at 2 shops that do consignments for when my grandma comes down here to shop with me. They have great reviews on the local boards so I'm pretty excited about it.
