Help me clarify: Rehearsal Dinner Guests

Please don't shoot me if this is something that's been on here recently, but I just want to make sure I don't leave anyone out of the rehearsal dinner and hurt feelings/offend anyone.   We have all of the WP members (and SO's) on the list, as well as parents and siblings.  I have made sure to include the officiant and his wife but what about our friend who is doing a reading for us?  I would not require him to come to the rehearsal, as he just returned from out of the country and is without a vehicle.  Should I invite him to the rehearsal and RD as a courtesy? I just don't want him to feel obligated to show up since it may be difficult for him to drive up for the evening.

What would you do?

  • I'd invite him but call him up (or text him) and let him know that while you'd love to have him, he's not required as you'll have someone let him know where to stand to do his reading.  I read once at a cousin's wedding and thought the rehearsal dinner was the best part of the gig.
  • You generally invite the people who do readings. And usually they come to the rehearsal as well. It's really not a big deal if he can't make it, but you should invite him.

He should be invited. It's his decision whether to make the trip or not.

I'd invite him and his SO if he has one.  People doing readings are WP members.  If he can come and wants to, he will.  An invitation does not "obligate" anyone to attend.

I'd invite him. Invitation =/= obligation (and if he feels that way, that's not something you did to him).
