The dresses came in wrong.... HELP

You know how we're all warned against ordering online or from China due to never knowing what you're going to get?  Well I gave my girls the option that they all had to agree upon, either order online, taking your chances on not knowing what you'll get exactly (we've all heard the stories) or paying the extra money and going down to the bridal store and getting their dresses there.
They didn't want to risk it, so they agreed to pay the extra and go down locally.  We picked the dress from the Catalog, looked at the swatches and ordered.  The order would take 12 weeks, so they had us wait to place the order.  It is now 2 weeks before my wedding, the dresses are in they don't have the same brooch as in the catalog and they are the wrong color of blue.  What do I do?!  Our wedding colors are Navy, Silver and white.  The dresses came in Royal Blue with iridescent cheap beads on the side.  Not to mention they don't even look right on the girls... please help I'm freaking out.

Re: The dresses came in wrong.... HELP

  • Schedule a meeting with the owner/manager of the store immediately.  If there's any hesitation or delay, file a grievance with your local BBB so the BBB can negotiate for you.
  • Thanks I go in to the store in half an hour... but I don't know what can be done at this point?  Any advice?
  • List your issues and show photos to show how what you got is not at all what you paid for. Demand your money back and then go find off the rack navy dresses at a department store.
  • I would definitely demand your money back.

Here is a navy dress from Macy's (CLICK)  Your girls may have to pay expedited shipping to get it to them quickly so that any alterations that need to be done can be done (not sure of how much your original budget was).  Or head to Davids Bridal and see what they have on their racks or another department store (like Nordstrom).

  • Well she would not admit any fault to the store itself.  She said they would change the brooch and the guys' tuxes.
She told me that although, yes the brooches were different, she thought they looked better, I told her I didn't.
While we were trying to find tuxes to match (funny how she insists the dresses were Navy yet the matching tuxes were Royal blue) she said not to stress it's never to late to fix anything.  I said well it is too late to fix the dresses, she looked at me and said well you should have never been shown that swatch because that was from a different manufacturer, I explained that it wasn't my problem her salesperson showed me the swatch next to the dress and said this is what I would be getting.  I told her it was a Navy dress with a silver brooch.  She said the brooch was never silver it was white lace.
Also we can't change anything because she already altered one dress (while I was out of town) and they were special ordered.  I am pissed!
  • I would absolutely demand a refund and buy dresses off the rack somewhere.

  • That's awful.  I would stand my ground on a refund since it was their fault.  I know it may not change anything, but I would tell her that you will make it your mission to let everyone know about their mistake and poor customer service (BBB, other brides via blogs, the knot, google reviews, facebook, yelp etc...).  That is appalling!  I'm so sorry to hear that.
  • That is abysmal customer service. Contact the BBB and make sure you write negative but honestly reviews of the shop online.
  • Put it on blast on google reviews too.

  • Leave terrible reviews everywhere and tell the store owner you are doing so. Continue to demand a refund and say that since she altered the dress before you'd seen it that shouldn't be a factor. I'd basically pitch a hissy fit. That is so incredibly not ok.
  • Do you have a copy of an order form from her that states what you were supposed to be getting (they should have had the correct style numbers and color swatch name written down somewhere)? If so, shove that in her face and demand full refund. No store should be altering a dress without your knowledge.

And yes, leave terrible reviews everywhere. Make them calm and rational (I tend to skim through the stark raving mad ones) but fully explain how terrible this store was.
