Heard this one through the grapevine today.... Sigh.

"So my mom's invited to this wedding. The couple is going to move out of state. Apparently the invite specifically requests cash gifts because they're moving. The mother of the groom called my mom and asked her WHEN she's giving cash because it would be HELPFUL to give it BEFORE the wedding so the couple can PUT IT TOWARDS THEIR HONEYMOON."

It's just keeps getting worse.

we normally give cash, but if that kind of attitude appears we might wait until AFTER the wedding to send the card.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I think this calls for a nice set of encyclopedias. Something classic, with heavy paper and a nice spine. They will look lovely in their new home.
