Has anyone heard of guests texting messages the bride/groom up to a big screen at the reception?

A friend just told me she went to a wedding and the guests could text messages to the bride and groom up to the big screen where they had their photo slideshow. Has anyone heard of this?

  • oops - accidently posted this several times after getting error messages.
  • She also said that they got to keep the list of all the texts after as a keepsake. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

This is the first I've heard of something like this.

Most of us aren't big on slideshows at receptions, unless they are run on loops in the background, and not played on a big screen with the lights turned off.  I myself might appreciate the texts if I were one half of the couple, but I don't think I'd try to put them on a big screen at the reception
  • Our venue actually mentioned something like that to us. They start a twitter feed.. I don't like the idea.

  • I think it could be cute if you're like, an employee at Twitter, or some other sort of social media tech company. Otherwise, skip it.

  • I think this is better suited to sports than weddings.

Also, I think you'd have to really trust your guests. I love our guests, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few inappropriate drunken texts show up. I think you're better off just creating a hashtag and leaving it at that.

  • I totally agree, @PDKH. I love our guests but I also know how our friends are and would not be surprised at all to see inappropriate content. lol

  • So this is offered at our wedding venue (an old converted theater). Guests send texts throughout the night. The DJ screens them! Only PG texts make it onto the screen. At the end of the night, you get a printout of all the texts, PG and otherwise. We had been to a wedding where this was done and it was really cute. The important part is to make sure there is a screener, or inappropriate things will end up on the board.

Cute or no, this just seems like something the couple should keep private.

I think that ends up being a matter of opinion. If all the texts are appropriate, it is sort of like sharing your well-wishes with everyone. If done tactfully (so not offensive), and the couple is okay with it, why not share? If you are a more private person, then I wouldn't do it. So I think in this case it really is just individual preference.

Because whether or not the texts are appropriate is very subjective, and because displaying some but not others can cause the senders of omitted texts to feel slighted.
