Not saying that having animals being left locked in a car is any better, but read this story! So sad. :(

Oh this is so sad ]:
Even though our minds can get the better of us and be distracted sometimes I don't get how you can rush out of a car so quickly as to not look back notice a child in the back seat?
I'm glad I've always had the habit of looking back!
• How can you forget your child in the car.....? I just dont understand

The same way you can somehow forget you're a parent or guardian of a child.. Which I dunno how that's possible either but it somehow happens? And the worst part is that the child, who is no where at fault and can help itself, has to take it.
• My vet, when I lived in Virginia, forgot her son in the car for the whole work day. He ended up dying.

Its so freaky that you knew her! I would have been so weirded out if this was me..
Strange how you would never expect someone as common as a your Vet to end up killing her child by forgetting them in a van..

[QUOTE]Hike, that's tragic. Makes me wonder if, as a busy working mom, she's burning the candle at both ends and then taking Ambien (or some other medication) to get some sleep. I know a lot of people who take Ambien and then don't get enough sleep, and while they're still under the tail end of the effect of the drug, forget things. It's hard to imagine forgetting that your child is in the car, but I know people who forgot that they took their child to hockey practice or figure skating practice very early in the morning and then got a frantic call from the child who is left alone and waiting to be picked up.

She definitely was. She left him in the car in the winter but the day care called her work and she went out and found him in the car. Something had to be going on with her.

• This is very sad, but glad that little boy is ok.
This morning a child passed away not far from here from being left in the car. It's going to reach 105 here tomorrow, I couldn't imagine, as an adult, being stuck in a car (turned off) for more than 20 mins, much less 2 hours.

Sending out a prayer to everyone to not forget their passengers!

• This story is sad :-( I feel for everyone involved.

But, um... Brenda Slaby? What is that quote from you? "I can't blame myself because I know I didn't conciously do this." You killed your kid - I can't imagine ever saying that kind of thing if my actions, intentional or not, lead to the death of my child.

Also, it's hyperthermia, GMA, not hypothermia.

This happened about an hour away from me. The news story shown here said that taking the child to daycare was not his normal routine. I know alot of times I get down the road and seem to wake up from a highway hipnosis. I can only imagine something like this took place. Or you never know the circumstances. Maybe he had a big day at work to prepare for. None the less, it is a horrible story.
• *shakes head* how can you forget about your poor child? wow..

I completely agree with this, which is why I said I feel for everyone involved. It was a tragic accident.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Talk about animals being locked in a car. Read this! :( : Then who would you expect to do it? Do you honestly believe most parents purposely leave their child in the car? No, in most cases these are loving, normally attentive parents. Often times they have some change in their routine (maybe they don't normally bring the child to daycare, maybe they don't normally leave so early, and maybe the child was asleep in the back seat- not making any noise to alert them), who truly made a horrible mistake. You ladies all seem so sure you'd never do something like this. How can you be so sure? No one is perfect. Have you ever left your coffee cup on top of your car? Have you ever left your phone somewhere? The important part if this story is that the child is okay, but I think it's important for all of us to remember this could happen to us.

All good points. Once I was horrified because I almost forgot to grab my sleeping three month old nephew out of the car while running an errand for my sister. I quickly remembered and grabbed him before I had even really stepped away from the car, but I could see how people could get so wrapped up in what they were doing that it completely slips their minds.

I heard about this on the radio once, and the biggest tip I took away from it was to keep something else you NEED in the backseat with your child. If you can't start your workday without having the keys to your office, for example, put them next to your kid's carseat. That way you can't forget who's back there.

THIS is why I put my purse in the backseat on the floor under my son's legs... exactly this reason. I thank GOD I haven't forgotten him.
