no home of our own, still register?

At the present time, we are living at my parents house because of  very elongated immigration situation, but we don't have a place of our own and we're going to register for the big things (blender, pots and pans, kitchen stuff etc...) but is it inappropriate for us to register for towels and all that home-y stuff if we don't have a home?

I think as long as you have somewhere to store things and aren't just going to return for cash, it's fine to register for home things.

Yeah, not an issue if you can store everything.

Yes. As long as you have a place you can keep things, go ahead!
I started registering before we had our own place. I looked for a lot of neutral colors, glass, wood, metals, etc, since I didn't know what our final place would look like.

we lived with inlaws before the wedding and about 6 months after.  Definitely registered and put stuff in storage.  When we moved to our own house in January it was awesome getting to re-open all of our wedding gifts and put them to good use :)
