Red Wedding Gown

Hello everyone! My FH and I were talking about gowns etc and I mentioned how I would like to try a red gown (with my BMs in ivory) or an ivory and red gown (with my BMs in red or silver) with silver accents possibly; he loved the idea of us being a little different and a little less classic. Is this totally outrageous?! If not, I now need help finding a reliable website or dress shop in/around the Atlanta area with this color dress in a under $250 budget! Thanks! :)

It's not outrageous at all. There are actually quite a few brides who've ditched the traditional white dress in favor of something with a little more color.

My advice would be to search for evening gowns or BM dresses in red. Good luck!

its an older gown i believe so if you do like it you might want to call around to local salons that carry venus they can tell you if the gown is older or newer and if they still have the dress.

a lot of times salons will take some of the older less popular styles they have that are still being manufactured by the designer and discontinue them  and you would get a discount

but if its a popular style that is a huge seller with them they will continue to sell that gown

Totally outrageous! Jk. I wore hot pink. Check out bridesmaids dresses or prom dresses. They're typically way cheaper than traditional wedding dresses and you'll have better luck finding them in red.

Lol cool! Thanks a bunch. I will definitely do that!

Okay the dress at that link is gorgeous! I want a brighter red though so I'll definitely still ask about that dress because I like the style! Thanks!

That definitely makes me feel a little better! Thanks!
  • Rock that red!! I'm wearing red too. I second the bridesmaid and prom dress ideas. Here are some of the dresses I found:

  • I love seeing brides in colored dresses!  I hope we get to see pix if you pic a red dress!
  • Red wedding dresses are traditional in Asia, where white is the color of mourning.  You can wear whatever you want.

  • I definitely will upload pics! My FH and I just had a convo about the color though and it seems I'll be looking for an ivory and red dress because red and my skin tone aren't too appealing to either of us.lol so something much like this one...

  • I'd also suggest Quincenera dresses as well as the prom and bridesmaid dresses suggested.

I went the white/color route myself, because while I LOVE purple, I still wanted to wear a white gown.  AA has a neat "Dream in Color" line, which is where I got mine through.  And I KNOW my particular style, if I was interested in claret (red) I could have found my gown used through one of the various re-sale sites.

Omg I love love love your gown!! Was your dress made exclusively for you? What is AA? I know I am a newcomer with very little knowledge. I definitely will check the resale sites, because I am so in love with this idea and to actually see a real person (you) in one, makes my day! Thanks :)
  • AA is short for alfred angelo
  • By made for me, it was in regards to the sizing and the color in the back.  But, like hyechica81 said, it's an Alfred Angelo design, so there are LOTS of them out there, so it's certainly not a unique dress.  Red/Blue/Green seem to be the most popular colors I've seen on re-sale sites; which means you stand a fantastic chance of getting one in red in your price range and potentially your size.

They do have some other styles as well.

I also think David's Bridal has a neat one in a much lower price range than the Alfred Angelo's:

I guess you buy the sash separately?  But there's a photo of this dress with a blue sash that I thought was super neat and right in your price range.  Could be worth talking to David's about.  :)
  • Okay that DB dress you linked me to is nice. I want my entire back colored though like yours!lol so I will keep looking for the design! Thanks :)

I'm not sure about the designers style, just remembered seeing a dress with red accents in a bridal magazine a long time ago.

  • OMFG, it's a good thing I didn't see those @Dignity100, because I am in LOVE with that second dress linked.  It would have been too formal for my ceremony site, but holy EFF nuggets, I love it!!!

Just an FYI there is an Alfred Angelo in Atlanta. They are located in Dunwoody off of the Ashford-Dunwoody exit on I-285. Easy to access and it's a pretty sizeable store. They'll have tons of options for that mix of red and ivory that you're looking for! Plus AA is pretty affordable dress wise and you could always try on to find exactly what you like and then try to find a used one in your size online if a new dress is still out of budget.
