formal invites?

Re: formal invites?

  • If I get a save the date, I stick it on my fridge to "save the date" but I'm waiting for a real invitation.

It is ok to skip save the dates though.

No, you definitely need to send real invites. As Tony said, you can skip sending save the dates.

  • I think you are really confused.    STD just let people know there is an event on this date at this location (might be just the city).     Invitation invites people to an event.

You need an invites, you do not need a STD.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by formal invite.  Do need to FORMALLY invite people to the event.   It however do not have to be a traditional formal paper invitation.  If you want to send out an email you can, you can also send out a text or phone the guests.   Not that I would recommend those options.  But you do need to actually say in some way " I INVITE you to this event".

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

This. STDates are not the same thing as invitations. In fact, they are a newer invention and not always necessary.

If you want to only do one mailing, you can do an electronic STDate (with your website info so guests can see it) and then do a formal invitation closer to the wedding date which directs people to RSVP on your website. This way, you're still only doing one mailing, RSVPs are still done electronically, and you won't confuse your guests.

And this is why we always quote people, regardless of how unlikely a DD seems.

She wants to do online RSVP (not sure why she thinks that an issue as long as there is an alternative, it's not a problem.)  She wants to send out STD in lieu of invitations.

  • Probably the same question or similar to it in her other thread, which has not been deleted.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
