Should we ask our friend to sing at our wedding if she is getting married the following weekend?

We wanted to ask our friends sing at our wedding, however they just got engaged and are now getting married the weekend after us.  Should we still ask them, or will that just be too stressful for them?

    What does their getting married the weekend after you have anything to do with whether or not you should ask them to sing at yours?

    If you want to know if they'd be willing to sing at your wedding, go ahead and ask them.  But @CMGragain makes a good point: are you going to treat them as "wedding party members" or as vendors?  If they're vendors providing a professional service for you, you ought to sign a contract with them that guarantees them compensation for their service.

    Like others have said, them getting married the week after you has nothing to do with asking them to sing at your wedding.  I mean, they are friends so I am guessing you were going to invite them to your wedding so this is really no different.  If they can't do it then they will say no.

    You need to decide, though, how you will treat them.  Either as a vendor or as a part of the wedding.  Whichever way you go you will need to pay them a fee or purchase them a lovely gift and include a thank you card.

    Just talk to your friends about what you are thinking and I am sure you all will be able to come to an agreement.

    I was a professional singer, pianist and church organist for many years.  It really made me angry at how many people expected me to perform at their parties, meetings, etc. for free.  I studied for years to have those skills.  Would you ask your lawyer friend to do legal work for free?  Would you ask your doctor friend to perform surgery for free?  No?  But you expect me to sing/play for your wedding for free?  Hm.
