Dress Change?

My FI and I are thinking about heading over to the bar (right next door) after the wedding reception ends at around midnight. We are used to going to weddings where we don't really stop until 4am or later. I was wondering if it would be appropriate if I changed out of my dress into something else.

What do you guys think? Should it still be a fancy dress? It's not a dive bar by any means, but I wasn't sure if wearing my wedding dress and risking it getting really dirty was worth it (I plan on either reselling or reusing the dress).

Re: Dress Change?

  • Every wedding after-party I've been to, b&g changed out of their wedding clothes. FI and I aren't changing, but that's because we want pictures on our alma mater's campus while still dressed up.

  • Since you want to sell it I would change.

Not weird at all. I know a lot of people have different dresses for the ceremony and reception.

  • Change!:-) No use dragging it around and possibly ruining it.

I wore my 20lb dress all day and into the night. It went down the aisle, danced the night away and got filthy, and I mean FILTHY, on the streets of New Orleans. I took it to the cleaners and they removed all evidence. It's your call. If you want to change clothes, then do so. Keep in mind that if you wear your wedding gown, complete strangers will probably want to celebrate with you! One guy in the French Quarter gave me a $100 bill "for the happy couple"! I had a blast.

  • I'd totally wear it. I've heard of brides getting free food, drinks purchased for them, random gifts, just because they have that dress on. I'd totally planned on wearing it wherever we went after my wedding that didn't happen. Rock the dress.
  • hmmm free sounds good lol

  • I'm wearing my dress. If only so I can keep wearing my tiara without looking like a total idiot. Granted, Halloween and everyone will be dressed in costume.
  • I would wear it! Maybe you will get some free drinks out of it ;)

We are doing the same thing after our reception and I definitely plan on wearing my dress out to the bar.

We're going out with our friends after the wedding (reception ends at 5). I will be changing into pants and a cute top.

If you have resale in mind, I'd change into whatever you feel comfortable in, whether it's a dress or a tank top and shorts.

  • I wore mine out to the bar afterwards.  I wanted to wear it as long as possible because I loved, loved, loved my dress.

But in the end it is up to you and what you are comfortable with.  Bring something to change into but make the decision that day.

  • We had an after party and I said I was staying in my dress until I went to bed, but that didn't happen. Our after party was private though so the only people seeing me had already been at the wedding. I ended up changing into yoga pants and a "bride" tank top. My BM's all changed into their pajamas, but left their pearls on. LOL

I'd change my dress. Just think you have a great excuse to buy cute party dress.
