VENT driving at 15 w/o permit

I just went onto FB and sure enough my mom had posted a picture of my younger brother driving to New Mexico and saying "teaching my fourth and final kid how to drive!"

(1) He is 15
(2) No permit
(3) Has never taken/started drivers education
(4) driving on highway... WTF?

Okay, I am pretty sure that my mom and brother can both get arrested if pulled over. WTF is she thinking!

I'm not very up-to-date on driving laws for parents and child driving together without a permit but that seems scary. I was scared to death when my little sister started learning how to drive. I still get anxious when she drives me around now and she is 22.

I haven't seen any instances of bad parenting around me lately. H's stepmom has been really awful lately and I think I would be ok if I never had to visit with her again since she really made me upset last week but she hasn't necessarily been a bad parent. I think she is being a bad stepmom to H for not letting him interact with his little brother and father the way he should be able to. H didn't get to see his father on his bday nor will he get to see his father on Father's Day because of her. UGH I'm getting heated just thinking about it!

My horn private teacher rides motorcycles with a group. One time they were going over a bridge and a car towing a speedboat changed lanes into them. It was being driven by a 14 year old with no permit. His mom was in the car ahead of him so not even in the same car. I'm pretty sure he still doesn't have his real license. Luckily he didn't kill anyone but 3-4 of the motorcycle group were in the hospital for quite some time and they were experienced riders. Parenting fail.

Also about 99.9% of Disney parents fail constantly. I like the ones that could care less their kids are kicking me, groping my ass, or pulling my hair. It's not cute. Get your kid the F off of me before I smack you. My kids will live down the street from Disney and will be lucky if they ever go lol

Okay, I'm still fairly new here so I have to ask.. what do you do at Disney?!

I side eye a LOT of parenting because I'm quite strict about my daughter's behavior in public... I'd say the most recent one was when I was at a store shopping and a guy went up to a store associate asking for help and a 5 year old (about) kid was pushing the sales associate saying "you can't talk to my dad YOU'RE A STRANGER!' and kept pushing her away... and the dad did NOTHING.

@BreMR um, I actually just went to downtown disney to see cirque du soleil a few weeks ago for my bday and encountered some horrendous parenting. lol

I can't imagine working there! my cousin is an entertainer on disney cruise lines though and I imagine she probably gets groped randomly lol. She's an awesome mickey though!

Oooh!! I thought maybe you worked there and kids were dying to touch Cinderella's hair.. that's even worse that you were a regular person doing your thing and had kids doing that kind of crazy shit!!

I actually see bad parenting very frequently, since most of the people who live in my apartment complex with kids don't care about being a good parent. We have a hot tub that is supposed to be 16+ years old only, no exceptions. One time a few months ago BF and I went to go use it, and there were parents in it with their 2 year old who was still in a diaper. We haven't used it since.

That same pool/hot tub area allows children in the pool, but only with adult supervision. My mother was visiting and we were just about to leave when these 3 girls who must have been 11-12 tried to come in, unsupervised. As a result, they didn't have a key to open the gate. It was 9 pm at night, and I could hear them fooling around outside the gate, so I wasn't about to let them in and risk them getting hurt/one of them drowning, and I wasn't going to stay and watch them. They were asking us to let them in by banging on the metal gate, and I told my mom, "Let's go out the other gate." They screamed at me for how rude I was as we were walking to the other gate. Obviously it didn't get to me too much, but I was appalled at the entitlement.

There was also a story recently on the news about high school students driving around in an Audi hitting other cars purposely and driving off. I think I live in an area where all the speshul snowflakes come from, because their parents never say no to them as kids and never punish them.

Also, my dad let me drive at 14 without a permit, but we did it on private land that my family owns with no one else around. He was in the passenger seat and instructing me. I also didn't go more then 25 mph. I never went on the road until I had a legal permit. IMHO it helped me to get my license first out of my friends, but letting kids drive on the road is idiotic before they have a permit.

My dad must've been a bad parent because he would take me driving on the highways at 15. Granted, they were like upstate NY highways (not a lot of traffic) but still, I had to learn.

I tend to see the effects of bad parenting because I work on a college campus. And with money. Lots of bad wrong things happen.

Also, helicopter parents. Ugh.

This whole post made me think of that teenager who killed 4 people when he was driving drunk in... Texas I think? And he got off because he was diagnosed with "Affluenza," a condition that affects children of rich parents who get spoiled. So essentially, he got off scott free because he was spoiled as a kid. I don't know if the Affluenza kid had a permit or not, but I was just reminded of it

That was in my area!

Kid was sixteen, had a BAC off the charts, and was driving with a truck full of people.

I think the thing with Affluenza is that they're bored, Mom and/or Dad are out making all the monies, and there's no one there to say "Hey don't do that, it's dangerous/dumb/etc"

@AuroraRose41 jeezus! I don't think I would ever any kid act that way! Just wow...

@buddysmom80 to each their own, but my brother is in no way responsible. he has failed his first year of high school and was pulled out for the last three weeks due to his behavior and teachers throwing him out of class when he bothered to show up. he throws fits and acts like a two year old. He does not deserve to be put behind a wheel at all at this point. Driving is something that you have to earn in my family... or at least it was!

@psychbabe314 I know! If BF and I have kids in the future, they will be in for a world of punishment if I ever catch any of them acting that. Probably grounding and extra chores of some kind, but still. God help me if my kids ever act that entitled.
