AW: New Home!

Dh and I are signing the papers at 1:00 today and we have movers scheduled for 8:00 tomorrow morning to do the heavy lifting for us (it would be such a shame to divorce after 4 months of marriage).

The house is sound, but there are some cosmetic projects that we will be doing as time and money permit.  We hope this is our forever house!  It is in a great school district and near my sister with 4 bedrooms (including a massive master suite), two story family room and a finished basement.  So excited!!!

  • Beautiful home!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    Congratulations!

I am sort of in love with your tub. If I had one of those, I would never leave the bathroom.

  • Congrats! It's beautiful.
  • Pretty pretty!

  • @arrippa eventually I want to rip out the decking and put in a free standing tub, but that will do for now.  ;)  We are pretty sure we can both fit in there without a problem, it is massive.

    Congratulations!

I mean, on getting a new roommate. I'm going to be moving into your bathtub.

(For real, congratulations! I know that there were some struggles while you were house hunting, and your new house is awesome!)

@phira Did I mention the tub is jetted?  :)  Party in the master bathroom!

This house wasn't without drama, including some minor stuff last night...  Seller was going to replace the fridge with a stainless steel one before we put in an offer so he agreed to do it as part of the offer.  We told him we would accept a credit at closing or the new fridge, whatever he wanted to do.  All along we thought he was going to put a new one in, but when we did our final walk through on Tuesday the old fridge was still there.  Turns out he is giving us a $750 credit.  WHAT?!?  In what world will that buy a new fridge, let alone a stainless steel model?!?!

Our hand are kind of tied because as the paper work was flowing back and forth no one noticed the changes and a credit amount was never specified.  I'm pretty annoyed at our realtor (who is the mother of a friend) I think she was a bit distracted at times by trying to sell her own home and I'm annoyed at us for not questioning some of the paperwork.

But...  In just a few hours it will all be over and we will have a much larger house with space for kids and next Friday I will get a nice fat check from closing on our current house.  Just trying to stay positive.  lol

  • Congratulations! I love the backyard! It seems like a great forever home, especially if children are in the future.

FTR, in mine an FI's last house, we had a huge tub like that. I loved it! That is one of the only things I miss about that house.

  • Lovely home!

    Happy housewarming!

I especially love the fireplace & deck.

Also, that master suite!?!?!?!? HELLO BATHTUB. I take baths pretty much never, but if I lived there something tells me that'd change REAL FAST.

@jenna8984 we are in central Ohio.  But I used to live in Charlotte.  :)

  • We are slowly but surely getting settled in.  All but three rooms are presentable (formal living room, guest bedroom and master bathroom.

We have melted our credit cards with purchases (new fridge, washer, dryer, lawn mower, trimmer, deck furniture, three locks and miscellaneous stuff).

We had the money, but spending large sums of money does make me nervous.

We also met with a contractor about some kitchen work that we would like to get done this summer.  We also need a new electrical panel and new back door (rotting wood).

The good news is that the longer we spend in the house the more we love it.  The neighbors we have met so far are very nice and the neighborhood is just active enough with people biking and walking their dog(s) that it seems like a real neighborhood.
