Help finding reception venue! (metro-detroit)

So the story is that we are on a tight budget, and a large guest list. We have 275 people. Feeding that many on a budget is a huge issue, but we found a caterer we can afford.

But now I’ve looked seemingly everywhere, and I can’t find a reception venue that fits that many people (plus dancing), allows outside caterers, and isn’t uber expensive.

We originally wanted to have it in Detroit, but after I couldnt find anything there I expanded my search to almost anywhere (In the general metro-detroit vicinity).

Although my preference was to avoid stuff halls, at this point I’ll take any suggestions you might have. The only thing I won’t do is outside.

Please help a girl out! And our budget for the venue is no more than $2000 (and that needs to include tables/chairs).

  • That's a pretty specific list. I think you may have to let some of those criteria go. Most of the places that are that large require on-site catering (the golf clubs and whatnot), and the nice ones that allow outside catering (community houses) don't fit more than 200 or so people. Laurel Manor in Livonia would probably fit the bill size-wise but they're full-service. Royal Oak Music Theater or the Gem Theater would be large enough, but the rental fee is $5k. Cobo Center maybe? I'm sure it's pricey.

FWIW, our room rental fee for the ballroom at the Detroit Golf Club is $1500 and includes tables and chairs for 275 people, but it's only that low because then we're dropping another $20k on the food and drinks. If they weren't making money on the catering (plus the membership dues; you have to be a member or have one sponsor you to book an event there), they'd charge a lot more for the space.
