Wedding Woes

What's happening to me? I'm...I'm...emoting!

Dear Prudence,
I am a 50-year-old man, the foreman over a group of guys who work outside. Real manly man kind of situation. Over the past few years I’ve started getting choked up more and more. Last fall I was the best man at my son’s wedding. Didn’t even make it close to getting halfway through the toast. I was really embarrassed. What can I do to try to control this? Even talking about my 5-year-old daughter we’re in the process of adopting, and I’ll start to choke up and have to walk away. Watching movies will even do it.

  • I think it's age. Goodness knows, this is happenings to me too. Pass the tissue.

  • There there

A little bit of chocolate, some wine and the Notebook on Netflix...it'll all be OK :)

Or it's Star Trek Vulcan Alzheimer's. Instead of losing grasp of overall logic, one becomes more and more of an emotionally unpredictable powderkeg.

    I didn't realize this was a problem.

My DH is a huge crier. Way more than me. It took some getting used to, but I love it now.

In which case he should mind-meld with Picard so Picard can sit in a room and emote, and he can get through work OK.

No, I don't obsessively watch TNG reruns; why do you ask?

@baconsmom that is one of the best things about having Netflix and the Chromecast. I can control my Star Trek from my phone.
  • I actually bought the whole series on DVD through Groupon at Christmas. It was over 50% off. I couldn't resist.

We're working our way through the Trek films on our Friday Star Trek dates. This week is ST6: The Final Frontier. Then we plan to watch all of TNG in order and then the TNG movies and by the time we're done, we should be up to rewatching the new movies right before 3 comes out.

    We...have a problem. Or a fandom. Either way, I think they're synonymous.

We just rewatched the Stargate Movie the other night and are already planning to binge watch the series. Again. We may give Atlantis a second try too, we just never got as into it before.
  • You know they left the Stargate in plain sight in a park in Colorado Springs? Just sitting out there, like, "Eh, we're not using it anymore, it's taking up too much space."

Also, I've heard rumors you can tour parts of Cheyenne Mountain. I need to look that up.

Wait, is it a fountain now?
  • Well, that's what they SAY. And maybe they've done some camouflage. But we know the truth.
