September 20th-ish for an outer banks wedding?!?

So, we are planning on a sound front wedding in Duck, NC (as of right now..haven't completely locked down the rental home as of yet). Some of my family is pretty concerned about hurricanes and the weather in late September. I was looking at the week around the 20th. What is the weather like for you Knotties who have had September outer banks weddings?

Re: September 20th-ish for an outer banks wedding?!?

  • We were married Sept 16th and had great weather all week, but the day of was quite windy and chilly and storms moved in overnight. I loved being there in September, it was a beautiful time of year! I would look into renting a house ASAP as many homes will already be booked. Even though kids are back in school in sept, there are plenty of people that go down because the weather is still nice then.

  • We are looking for September of 2015 :) I will probably book the house by the end of this year. We already have one picked out and I spoke with the owner!

  • Hi and welcome! I was married on September 7th we had a perfect day, I think you can have bad weather regardless of when you select to get married. Double check with all of your vendors as to what the hurricane policy is.

Shewwww....I thought it was for this year.  Keep in mind that if you find a house that you like now, you can pre-reserve it for only $50 until the contracts come out in October as that is when most owners will determine final pricing for the next year.  If you do this, make sure you have a house or two even, on back-up in case the owners increase the price that goes over your budget for housing.

  • OBX2011 I've contacted the owner and he said that I would need to put down the 25% deposit to reserve it now. Unfortunately I haven't found any other house that I like! I want a sound front house that has a private beach on the sound, so you know of any? We are looking at booking through the owner instead of an event home.
  • Is this through a private owner or rental company?  What part of the island are you staying in....I thought you had mentioned Duck once before, but I could be way off.

    P.S.  You have a PM :)

I got married Sept 20 and the weather was perfect! 78 and sunny :) the whole week we were there was great except a couple days it was a little windy for the beach.
  • I think September in OBX is beautiful but I would also consider a backup plan in case of bad weather. It's really great that so many people had perfect September weddings, but it IS prime hurricane season for our area, so it's worth keeping in mind. I hope you get great weather for your big day!

I agree with the comments above in that you definitely should have a back up plan regardless of what time of year it is!  You never know if it will rain or not!  I got married July 23rd and luckily it did not rain at all the whole week except for the day before we got married but you just never know!
