dinner only reception

We are having a dinner only reception at a local restaurant. Do ya'll have any ideas of things the guests could do during the dinner to keep it from being boring?

Re: dinner only reception

  • I'm not sure the question.  I've been to a few weddings at restaurants.  We enjoyed ourselves just fine socializing with family and/or friends.   You do not have to have dancing and stuff.  It would be more like a dinner party.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • The same way they are not bored when they go out to eat any other time.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Eat.

Seriously, that's all they need to do.

  • If you want you can hire a small band and people can dance.

I think that dinner is enough of an activity to keep your guests entertained.

    Alternatively, maybe a piñata.

yeah but if she is having a 4hr party like most weddings (or 'traditional' weddings anyway), most people don't go out to dinner for 4 hours. if it's like a shorter timeframe, I think it would be fine but like 3 or 4 hours I think is a long time for people to not be doing anything other than chatting, eating & drinking.

Personally I'd be bored at a dinner only reception. Not that I think it's a bad idea, I'm just the kind of person that gets bored easily and need to be entertained in some way.

I truly don't see how a dinner only reception would be 4+ hours. It just wouldn't make sense to plan something like that.

Have some background music, be it an iPod or a band/dj, offer good food, make sure seating is conducive to conversation, and have fun. Maybe a speech or two, cut a cake, and be on your way. I'd say 2-3 hours tops.

After 6 years and 2 boys, finally tying the knot on October 27th, 2013!
