We are having a dinner only reception at a local restaurant. Do ya'll have any ideas of things the guests could do during the dinner to keep it from being boring?
I'm not sure the question. I've been to a few weddings at restaurants. We enjoyed ourselves just fine socializing with family and/or friends. You do not have to have dancing and stuff. It would be more like a dinner party.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
The same way they are not bored when they go out to eat any other time.
yeah but if she is having a 4hr party like most weddings (or 'traditional' weddings anyway), most people don't go out to dinner for 4 hours. if it's like a shorter timeframe, I think it would be fine but like 3 or 4 hours I think is a long time for people to not be doing anything other than chatting, eating & drinking.
Personally I'd be bored at a dinner only reception. Not that I think it's a bad idea, I'm just the kind of person that gets bored easily and need to be entertained in some way.

I truly don't see how a dinner only reception would be 4+ hours. It just wouldn't make sense to plan something like that.
Have some background music, be it an iPod or a band/dj, offer good food, make sure seating is conducive to conversation, and have fun. Maybe a speech or two, cut a cake, and be on your way. I'd say 2-3 hours tops.
