Incorporating Superheros/Comic Books

Hi!
I'd like to find a subtle way to incorporate our love of comic book heroes into our wedding in some small way.  I'm not looking to do an entire comic book wedding, just find a small way to pay tribute to something that helped bond us, but I'm not coming up with anything cool.  I'd welcome any ideas!!
Thank you!

Re: Incorporating Superheros/Comic Books

  • You could do something with the escort cards if you have them, or you can name your tables after your favourite characters.  Or, you could make a "comic book" about you and your FI and leave it at the guest book table for guests to look through.
If I could up with more ideas, I'll add them.  But I like this - it sounds really cool.  My FI and I bonded after watching "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" together, so when we come into the reception, we are going to have the theme song playing to acknowledge this.

  • Table names could be fun, you could even do comic book couples, like Bruce and Betty, Clark and Lois, Reed and Sue, etc.

Here's my H's grooms cake, which we served as dessert at the RD:

  • all the guys could wear superhero shirts under their formal wear?

That is a really fun idea! I did a quick search and found some fun groomsmen pictures:

If you do go this route though and require the groomsmen to wear these, I believe etiquette states you should pay for them. Someone more knowledgeable on etiquette will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think paper goods or the grooms cake are the most common ways to incorporate something unique into a wedding. You could do a comic inspired save the dates or ceremony programs. You could create a comic book guest book for guests to sign. Previous posters have covered other great ideas!

Is there a particular comic that is important to the two of you?

Welcome and good luck with your planning!

This is a very cool idea!!  Thank you.  It would be particularly cool because FI and I could do it ourselves-- I went to school for illustration and he happens to be a great inker.  The gents will be wearing superhero cufflinks-- FI has his eye on these epic Iron Man glowing arc reactor ones, but I wanted one more little touch.
We both really love anything Marvel.  I'm a Deadpool freak and he loves Iron Man.
The rest of my wedding happens to be watercolor inspired with a peacock color palette and it was making my brain hurt to try and put the two things together!

Cake toppers all day.  You don't need anything else. :)
  • My original idea for our wedding was comic books (but instead I'm doing Legos, just because).

I had an idea of making my wedding invitations and save-the-dates comic books made by an artist so our likenesses were in them. (I have a friend of the family who is a comic book artist.) I was also wanting a cake like the one someone posted above, that had our favorite comic book characters/scenes on it.

I also liked the idea of having a white mask instead of a veil!

  • We just got the groomsmens gifts for our wedding- superhero cufflinks! They weren't too expensive (11 a piece I think) and my fiancee cannot wait to give them to his friends! We've been trying to find more small ways to throw it in there too.. we have thought about including some comics in the welcome baskets for hotel guests and incorporating a superhero climbing our cake stand somehow.. we'll see haha! Also, we are gathering a few supehero items for our photobooth (masks, capes, etc) and I am thinking about sneaking the 892 Deadpool into our wine box that we will open on our 5th anniversary (just a funny thing to do, not exactly a romantic story lol)
    Hope some of that helped!

My fiance and I are actually planning on having the groomsmen wear a superhero shirt under their button-ups and show it off during some of our wedding photos!!
  • I love the t-shirts.  Those are super awesome.

  • Check out these shoes. I brought something similar for my wedding shoes http://www.etsy.com/listing/104357384/custom-comic-book-shoes
  • I've seen a superhero cake-topper with batman & catwoman. I've also seen the superhero t-shirt under the button-up shirt idea too, I think it's cool!
  • I'm thinking of ways to incorporate something like this too. FI isn't a huge comic reader but does like the Marvel movies, as do I. Trying to think of ways to incorporate his interests and not make this all girly stuff.

  • I'm interested to see how you did it. I'm a HUGE Green Lantern fan (please don't mention that god awful movie) and he's obsessed with Joker. We picked purple and green because purple is my fave color, and those are Jokers colors... But decided instead to have goofy pictures where the guys are dressed as GLs, and my girls as Star Sapphires. Other than that ( and the GL oath incorporated into our vows) we don't know what else to do. Aside from the colors, we don't want it to be overbearing.

How about adding little figures to the guys' bouts or in your bouquet?
