Elevator to Reception

Hi everyone!

My reception is going to take place in a third story loft and the only way to get there is via an elevator.  The elevator is very easy to find, but I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to handle this?  I was thinking of putting a sign right by the doors where people walk in welcoming them with instructions on where the elevator is and which floor to go to.  Also, I'm planning on lining the hallway to the elevator with votive candles so it will be hard to miss.  However, what does everyone think about decorations/signage in the actual elevator?  Does it need to be decorated at all?  I thought it might be a nice touch but wasn't sure where to start.  Another idea we had was to have a butler with drinks standing outside the elevator to give to people as they went up.  He could then remind them which floor to go to in case everyone doesn't read the sign thoroughly.  Has anyone been to a wedding that had a similar situation?  Thanks!

    We're on the second story for our reception, and you can take stairs or elevator, but both are literally right inside the entrance. We're not decorating the elevator.

    My sister had her wedding on the second floor of her reception venue.  I believe that she had a sign by the elevator stating that the wedding was upstairs.  She also had a venue staff member manage the elevator for the guests.  Not like it is hard to manage an elevator but the person was there to let people know that they could board the elevator and would hold it open until it was full, etc.

    I think having a staff member to direct the guests and give drinks would be very nice.  I wouldn't bother decorating the elevator though.  People will be in it for 30 seconds.

    I like the idea of a chalk board or some sort of easel sign when you come in the door saying like "CatLady / CatMan reception 
    Take the elevator to the 3rd floor

    @OwningAHome1981 Wow, really?  So what would you do as a guest in this situation?  Also this is just hard for me to fathom because I work in NYC, so 40-story elevators are part of everyday life for me.  Are you able to avoid elevators normally?

    OP: I think the votive candles, a sign, and a butler handing out drinks would be perfect.  The drinks especially are a nice touch.  And I wouldn't bother decorating the actual elevator.
      
    You may want to consider crowd control though, especially at the end of the night with people leaving in waves.  Will a line form?  How will the venue staff handle it if somebody says they need to leave right now and there is a line?  What about smokers-- will they be able to get up and down easily?  God forbid there is an emergency, are there stairs the guests will be aware of if they need to evacuate?

    I would have to just suck it up I guess. Most likely if I am close enough to the couple they will know about my issue, but I'm not gonna not go just b/c of an elevator.

    Ya I work in NYC too but I work on a low floor and take the stairs and at hotels I always request low floors so I can take the stairs too. I just have this fear of the elevator not opening and me being trapped inside. I would be better if someone else was in with me, but by myself OMG
