Help me choose!

H and I were invited to a Sunday afternoon wedding this summer that is "black tie optional." H is not renting a tux, but is wearing a black 3-piece suit. The bride has told several female guests that cocktail dresses are fine, but I'm not sure what to wear!

Please help me choose! I already own the purple and long dresses. The long one needs some alterations, and could be cut into cocktail length.

Re: Help me choose!

  • My favorite is the blue lace.  Second favorite is the long dress option.

  • I agree with @Dignity100. The blue lace is so classy and looks perfect for an afternoon wedding on the formal side. What time does the ceremony and reception start? If it's a 4pm ceremony with a 5pm cocktail hour and 6pm reception, I might go with the long dress instead...
  • PS - Where is that blue lace dress from? It might be perfect for my rehearsal/dinner. :-)
  • Cocktail hour is at 4pm, followed by the ceremony at 5, then reception at 6.

@Mkincaid2014‌ the blue dress is from GwynnieBee

  • Hmm, I think you could go either way. Both would look stunning.
  • @Mkincaid2014, Macy's also carries it in a few colors here

  • if you already own the purple one, i would wear that.

  • I love all of them expect the long dress sorry! If you want to save money the purple dress would be very nice. I think you could make it day time by wearing a lower heel, some low key but festive jewelry, and maybe a light weight cardigan. However, if you wanted an excuse to buy a new dress I like the blue lace one!

  • I don't like the long dress (it looks like two different dresses, one on top, one on bottom, sorry!) or the 3rd short black dress.  My favorite is the blue lace, but if you already own the purple one, I'd just wear that if you want to save money.
  • I love the long black one, but it just needs to have too many alterations to it to be wearable.  I'll probably end up going to the purple one, unless something catches my eye this week.  Thanks for the feedback ladies!
