Looking for a Barn for my Wedding

My fiance and I are newly engaged and looking to have a rustic barn wedding in NJ (or close PA) area. With our large family and just a few friends our guest list is already over 150 people. We do have a limited budget so inexpensive options are much better for us.

We are looking for a venue that also has a spot to hold a ceremony. Neither of us are religious so getting married in a church is not an option. Many of the barn venues that we have looked at have great outdoor ceremony locations, but no option for a rain location. I am way too paranoid to NOT have a rain location for the ceremony and I do not want to rent a tent (at all).

Any suggestions? I would honestly love to rent a working barn as long as we could have all of the people there we wanted. I grew up around farms and just love the feel. I am not looking for anything too glamorous, just clean and down home country.

Thanks!

  • Perona farms has recently renovated their barn. It's not a working barn, but it is set up to hold weddings and other events.

  • Also look at Farmstead GC, not far from Perona.
  • Hi Christie!  Perona Farms and it is an amazing venue and great for your size.  They have a barn that is breathtaking and has the rustic chic feel.  They also have two really beautiful more “traditional” reception spaces as well as a nice patio for outdoor cocktail hour.  The food was some of the best I’ve ever had at a wedding.

I'm getting married at The Conservatory at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. It is not a traditional barn, but has a similar feel. There is a courtyard for an outside ceremony. But there is also a spot if it rains.

This photographer (not the one I'm using) shows how different people used the space. http://www.schroderphotography.com/html/archives/tag/sussex-county-fairgrounds-wedding
  • How far out would you be willing to travel in PA? Friedman Farm near Wilkes-Barre is fairly popular. They have several spots appropriate for an outdoor ceremony, but can move it to the loft in the barn in case of inclement weather. They section off the barn with curtains so the cocktail hour area is separate from the reception area, plus there is a lovely patio. The one caveat is that there are horses on the property, so if you're not into that, it wouldn't be the place for you.

The Raritan Inn at Middle Valley is actually a B&B that has a barn on site that they use for receptions.  I didn't have my wedding there, but my caterer is one of their preferred vendors and our food was fantastic.
