Really? Who has drama over paper?

That would be me, apparently. Had a friend from high school do our invites. I thought we had agreed on a certain type of paper (metallic ecru to be exact), but when she dropped them off they were definitely NOT. They were instead a very, very white and very, very non-metallic paper. It's just a shade off, right? Shouldn't have been something to make a fuss over, but it just looked so plain, and there's no white anywhere in anything else for the wedding.

She doesn't want to fix them. When I called her after looking at them, her response was "So what do you want me to do about it?" She said it would take her THREE WEEKS!! to order and get in more metallic paper to redo them, and she has a lot of other jobs going on right now. WTF?!? It's not like she's doing this for free, either, we paid her pretty close to what she charges her regular customers. UGH...

So after a call to my DOC (I heart Ashlie) FI and I head down to Sam Flax and oh, looky here, they have the same metallic paper right there in front of our faces. So they're going to reprint the invites for us. It's just going to cost the same amount we paid my friend again, and then some. And FI is working on reformatting the templates we have so we don't have to pay the guy extra for formatting and whatnot. *sigh*

I'm pretty unnerved about all of this... boo!

OMG that sucks! Did your friend agree it was the wrong kind of paper? Can you just ask for your money back or at least SOME of the money back??

That is so lame! Did you get any of your agreements in writing? If it's in writing, that is definitely breech of contract...not to mention extremely unprofessional! I'm sorry that happened! It looks like you've got it mostly under control, so that's good.

My officiant is a friend of ours too, and even though I  trust her...I'm still making her sign a contract so I have it in writing.

No contract... and no, she's not agreeing that it's the wrong thing. She's adamant that I told her I wanted this paper even though we'd had numerous subsequent conversations about how her suggestion of the metallic paper looked better. I think the problem is that right in the middle of us deciding what would go into my invites, her husband decided to leave her. (And then change his mind, and then change his mind again, and again...) She's been mostly with-it and has had a pretty good outlook on the whole thing, but I'm sure that's why she flaked on me. I don't know how I feel about asking for any of the money back since she did give us a break (small, but whatev) on her normal prices, and even with having to do all of this again it's still going to be (a little bit) less than the invites we were looking at online.

I'm just so bummed about it - this was supposed to be easier than the other options, and now it's this big PITA. :(

Wow, that really really sucks. I'm sorry that that happened to you.

That said, what and where is Sam Flax and how much are they printing your invites for because I"m reaserching making my own invites too.

Theresa, you should definitely talk to them. They're on the corner of Colonial and Shine. It's an art supply store, but they do stationery as well. I didn't look at their invite patterns since we have that already, but the few I saw sitting around were cute. The paper for 75 invites and reply cards was about $30, and with the cutting, formatting, and printing it was about $125.

OMG That is ridiculous!!! I would be so mad/freak out about it!  I'm glad you were able to come up with a way to get what you want, it just really sucks!

Wow, I'm sorry - that is horrible!  What an awful situation to put you in.

And get this - our wedding is on her birthday, too! I was going to have our baker do something special for her, but notsomuch! I'm not going to ask her for the money back, though. We probably would have paid about that much to get the paper/coloured backing from her invites that we will still use, so I'm just going to let it go. If she wants to think I told her I wanted that, fine. There's no point in arguing with her once she gets an idea in her head. I'm not gonna end the friendship over this, but you can be sure it won't be the same again.

    Parula, thanks for the info.

Have you looked at www.cardsandpockets.com yet?  They have really great prices on everything for pocketfolds.  I'm having three inserts and an invite and they quoted my 118 for printing and cutting and paper for 60 invites each with four pieces of paper.

No I haven't - that's a great price. We needed them likerightnow though, so having someone local do it was the best option for us. 40 extra bucks is less than we'd spend in rush shipping, most likely. GL with your invites!
