Question for ladies who are always "dolled up".

Hi ladies

Last week I went for hair and makeup trials. I have to admit I wasn't CRAZY about how I looked. I usually wear makeup every day and I am happy with the way I do it myself. I just feel like, because i'm so used to wearing makeup, I was expecting to feel more dolled up or "wowed" because it was done by a pro- MUA. I am worried (yes, it seems stupid) that I won't feel my most beautiful on my wedding day. I want to look drop dead gorgeous but I feel like I won't look any more special than I do on a daily basis (to me, that is).

Has anyone other daily makeup wearers felt this way? I know it sounds petty but its just worrying me...

If you're not satisfied with that MUA, then maybe you should go elsewhere. I understand what you mean because I wear makeup everyday also. So my MUA will have to go above & beyond to impress me. Bring in pics of what you would like to look like and explain that you're not afraid of drama. I'm sure you can find someone on your local board that can recommend someone.

I didn't get pro makeup, but I can see what you are saying. I think that people put more stock into MUAs than they are sometimes worth. People have the idea that being a pro means major transformation or something and if you tend to wear makeup and do a great job on your own, the differences might natrually be less.

If nothing else, you could tell your MUA that you want a bolder look. Would more liner or a darker lip make this happen for you?

I do get where you're coming from, gals who don't typically wear a ton of makeup are going to be blown away by their results whereas makeup buffs can end up being underwhelmed because they are used to seeing themselves that way. I think maybe you will be more awed by what you see in the mirror if you choose a makeup look for the wedding that is different from your everyday look. If that doesn't work, considering shopping around for a different MUA, one with maybe more experience or a different approach. When doing this, you should let them know about your daily makeup routine and voice your desire to blow that look out of the water. I would think most MUAs will go the extra mile for a girl who is used to being glammed up as opposed to someone who wears only basic makeup, that's why they are supposed to ask those kind of questions during the consultation.

Thanks girls.. .Yes, I told him I def needed a bolder lip and next time, I will def want more eyeshadow. I know I can talk to him, I just really want to be wowed and for me, thats generally bolder eyeshadow. I will bring even more pics next time. Maybe i'll feel better when I'm in my gown with my accessories !

I wear makeup daily but I was definitely wowed by my professional makeup all 3 times I had it--E-pics, wedding, and boudoir. My MUA definitely provided a look that I could not have achieved myself.

However, I will say that the small pic of you in your avatar looks great and I would guess that you had your makeup professionally done in that picture. If that is not the case, you might just be more talented than someone like me! I went back to my MUA for a trial just for eyes and lips and she cut me a deal--maybe talk to your artist about some things you would like to tweak and see what he says.

Sounds like you need to communicate with your MUA more specifically what you are looking for.

If you want more glam, he needs to know that! Find pictures of makeup looks (particularly of people with similar coloring) and be ready to explain what it is about each picture that appeals to you.

I wouldn't start looking for a new MUA just yet, I'd talk to the original one first.

I also wanted to add that when you have the 'complete' look, it makes a big difference.

I was originally supposed to have a MUA, but a week before the wedding, I found out she double booked my date. So I ended up going to Sephora and to buy some make-up that I'd need to acheive the look I wanted. I did my own 'trial' run a couple days before the wedding when I went out with some friends that had come in town. I was wearing normal clothes, had my hair just down straight like always, etc and didn't feel all that different from my normal self.

However, on my wedding day, when I had my hair done, and my wedding dress on, the same makeup looked completely different and had way more of 'wow' factor than before. Nothing changed about the product I used or how I applied it, but when it was put together for the complete look, I really felt like I looked special (different from the every day).

Thank you! I guess I just can''t picture it yet with all the other elements. I mean, I thought about doing it myself, but I'd prefer getting it done so I will try not to be too shy in communicating any changes for the big day :)

I wear makeup every day and LOVE makeup. I've had my makeup done professionally done dozens of times (I'm a musician so it gets done for photo shoots, videos, gigs, etc), and I've never liked it as much as when I do it. I also want to have the extra "wow" on my wedding. I'm a HUGE bare essentials user, and I found this one woman who works at the bare essentials store that I really like. Her own makeup is always "wow", so I've asked her to do a trial. We'll see how that goes. I may just learn some things from her and then do it myself for the wedding, or, if I really love her, I might hire her for the wedding.

I would try another make up artist, my girl Homayra, knows exactly what to do! Personally I think it's all about having one strong feature, whether it be eyes or lips, and then to have flawless skin. I think the ladies here have some great advice. I also suggest going to some makeup places like mac, sephora, or even Macy's and looking for girls working at the counters with dramatic makeup of their own. Tell them you like drama and aren't afraid and maybe they can replicate the look you like on you.

I wear makeup pretty much every day, too, and I am also worried that I won't feel beautiful on my wedding day because I live in a really rural area and it's going to be hard to find a makeup artist. My MOH has offered to do makeup for everyone, and I might take her up on it because she's pretty good at it.

Anyway, I understand what you mean, and I think that if you weren't happy with the makeup artist, you should try a different one. I had my makeup professionally done for my sister's wedding, and although I thought the makeup looked great in the mirror, I wasn't that thrilled with how it showed up in pictures.

Emphasize the eyes. you can make it look dramatic even if you are the type that wears makeup everyday. It's possible that her makeup style is not your liking. Perhaps bring photos of what you were hoping for.
