Cake flavors good for Spring?

I've gone through several pages of wedding cake suggestions but none of them scream Spring to me. We are having an early May wedding with an afternoon tea reception and I'm trying to come up with a few cake/filling combinations that will fit the season aside from Strawberry Shortcake. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Cake flavors good for Spring?

  • Lemon cake with raspberry or strawberry filling?
  • Anything fruity.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Lemon raspberry seems springy to me. Or coconut, but that's not super popular.
  • I don't care what season, I always want chocolate. To lighten it up, you can use buttercream frosting.
  • Vanilla's always good, white chocolate, mint, strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and citrus flavors like lemon all ought to work if you like those flavors.
  • Look, I'll eat pumpkin cake, black forest cake, Christmas cake, regardless of the time of year.

That said, we served apple cake at our may 17th wedding, and it was popular. Black forest was the clear winner though.

hahaha, me too!  My favorite is chocolate pudding filling.  It is good year round.  :)
  • Ditto the fruity suggestion... lemon, berries, apricot, cherry. Carrot cake can be pretty spring-y as well since it normally gets lumped in with Easter.

But cake is always delicious and doesn't have to be seasonally appropriate. Chocolate, white chocolate, bavarian creme, almond, tiramisu are always good. Gimme a bowl of cream cheese frosting any day and I'll love ya forever.
