Wedding Invitations & Paper

Transportation to Reception

Hello all!

I am currently working on my invitations and could use a little guidance on the correct way to address transportation. Let me give you a little background: Our ceremony (outdoors, not a church ceremony) and reception is at separate locations and we will be providing transportation from the ceremony to the reception. How and where should this be worded? My plan is to have a reception card with this information, but I’m not exactly sure what that should look like. Any help would be greatly appreciated! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Re: Transportation to Reception

  • How are people getting to the ceremony? Are they driving themselves? If they are, how are they going to get their cars after the reception?

It is a destination wedding in Las Vegas. All will be coming in from out of town and room blocks are at the hotel of the ceremony and another within walking distance.

  • Reception inserts for receptions at venues other than the ceremony venue are worded

    Reception
    Immediately following the ceremony
    Venue Name
    Address
    Las Vegas, Nevada

and this assumes that the cocktail hour is ready to begin there as soon as the ceremony ends at the ceremony venue.

You could put transportation directions on another insert that also contains directions from the airport to the ceremony venue and the other hotel to the ceremony venue.
  • So they're starting at/ending up in Hotel A, where the ceremony is and being driven to Hotel B, where the reception is, and then being shuttled BACK to Hotel A at the end of the night?

I agree with Jenn's suggestions about the separate reception card and travel card.

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking of doing a separate directions card, but thinking of it a travel card helps. And yes @HisGirlFriday13‌, that's the plan! The reception isn't that far away and actually could conceivably be walkable if it were a normal day. Since our guests are from out of town we don't want them to have to make their own way to the reception and add more cost/confusion to the trip. As soon as we arrive there is a cocktail hour before dinner, so hopefully it will be a smooth transition!

  • We had a separate card for our transporation.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Another option is to do a little wedding website insert and put the transportation information in your website along with anything else. That's what I'm planning on- the insert is basically a pretty print postcard that also says "visit www.ourwebsite.com for more information". I especially liked the idea because the art will spice up our invitation suite. If you don't have any other info to share with guests, I think the travel card will also work well.

  • Thanks @carliealissa! I do have the wedding website and already have it listed there along with hotel and other travel information, but I was thinking of people like my Grandma who doesn't use a computer or don't check the website.

  • My grandma's probably the only person who doesn't know how to use a computer- I'm going to just talk to her separately about anything she needs to know :)

I'm not even a big technology person, at least when it comes to mail/invites etc. but we have just too much information to include in the written invitation!  It's true a lot of people might not check the website- can't really control that though I guess, at least we're putting everything out there.
