Russell's Bridal in Linden - Semi Review

I went to Russell's yesterday to try on gowns, and just wanted to share my experience for anyone thinking of going there.

First off, I worked with Sue, and she was great! She did a great job picking dresses she though I would like and actually picked one that ended up being my favorite. She focused all of her attention on me and was more than helpful and very sweet.

Also, I am normally a size 16 pants, and they had one row of dresses that are their "women's dresses" that I was able to try one. I found about 4 from there that I liked and tried on. The unfortunate thing is, there were TONS of other dresses in smaller sample sizes (mostly 10 and 12) that I would've loved to try but unfortunately couldn't.

Their prices are pretty reasonable.. most of the ones I tried were under $1000 (which is where I wanted to be) and there were a few around $600 to $700. They do offer free alterations, and bridesmaids would save 10% if they bought their dresses their also. They cap the bridesmaid alterations at $65, and if the guys get their tuxes there too, then I believe the bridesmaids would get free alterations as well.

Overall, I had a great experience there and I would higly recommend Sue. However, if you are looking for a larger variety of "plus size samples" just be aware that there aren't TOO many to try on.

I'm glad you had a positive experience. I also worked with Sue and loved her! I got my dress, my bridesmaids dresses, and flower girls dresses from Russell's.

Wow, things must have changed b/c I am a 16/18 and tried no less than 25 plus sized dresses on there.  I was there with my mom, aunt and cousin for like 3 hours. They even had a handful of plus size bridesmaid dresses, which is incredibly rare for a regular bridal salon (ie not David's Bridal, Alfred Angelo company store).

Really? They only had one tiny section of plus size samples.. so unless I was going to try on every single one they had, there was no way I'd be able to try on that many.. maybe they reduced their stock of them? Not sure.. I don't know about the bridesmaid dresses.. my sister tried a few on, but she is a size 4, so didn't have a problem..

I love love love Russell's, so I'm glad you had a good experience.  I've worked with both Erica and Sue and have had an amazing time with both.

I'm surprised about your experience with dresses, though.  I'm a street size 2 and all of the dresses that I tried on there were size 12, 14, or 16.  I just assumed most of their sample size dresses were larger sizes.

Also, you didn't mention it in your OP, but if you buy your veil from them as well you get a discount (or at least I did).

When I was there - granted this was 3+ years ago - the back 1/3 of the store was all plus sizes, up to size 24. There were 3 huuuge racks. One was on the wall where the BM, prom, MOB dresses are on the other side of it (there's a cutout in the wall to go between the 2 sections) from the cutout back to where the dressing rooms are, one that was double-sided in the middle of the floor and one on the opposite side of the store.

The store moved to a new location, not sure how long ago so it is completely different now.. the plus sizes are in one small section kind of towards the front of the store.. one rack against the wall..maybe 10 feet long.

When my best friend used Russell's Bridal for her wedding everything was great.  I wish I could say the same about my wedding.  The bridal side forgot to do alterations to one of my bridesmaid dresses.  The tuxedo side had nothing but rude workers.  One worker said he didn't want to fit my ringbearers.  One of my groomsmen has MDA and his body measurements were difficult.  So they told him he should've gone somewhere else.  The tuxedo side also charged each groomsmen a different price for the same tux.  They forgot the tie for one of my ringbearers and blamed it on us.  When we returned the tuxedos, which they were suppose to pick up but didn't,  my mother in law was verbally abused by the manager for questioning their practices.  Then to top it off she was told that if she put a bad review online their would be consequences.  I would choose a different store to work with for your wedding.
  • Have to share my recent yelp review for Russell's for anyone looking... I had what seems to be the same experience as ambiandtiffy.

I am getting married in about a week and used Russell's for the bridesmaids dresses. I can't even begin to tell you how much stress they've caused me and how much inconvenience they've put my girls through. They get 2 stars because they have a good selection that's about all that's good. We picked out and ordered dressed in March and were told they'd be in in June. They did not arrive until the last week of July. Any time I called to ask for an update about their arrival time they were extremely rude gave me an attitude and told me they'd be in next week which was never true until the last time I called. Being so delayed my girls only had 2 weeks to get in for their first fittings, and most of them have now had to go back 3-4 times each because every time there is something wrong. All of the zippers on the dresses looks horrendous after the first fittings and they tried to tell most of them oh well we can't do anything about it. My wedding is 1 week away and 3 of my girls are still going on their 3rd or 4th fittings this week to make sure they didn't screw anything else up.

Some background on me. I'm extremely easygoing and not at all picky. I'm also always optimistic so for me to be writing this review you know they really upset me. Worst part of my whole experience was how rude they were to me when I would call to check in on things. There are many places to get bridesmaid dresses, please save yourself the added stress and  skip Russell's I sure wish I did!
  • My sister was married in May and got her dress w/Theresa  at Rusell's- She had patience of a saint. I think she had a 2 hour appointment. She got a wonderful dress- very fairly priced & the free alterations is just a real bonus. So I would advise any bride do go to the fancy high end stores- then go to rusell's last- you will be so pleased- they are wonderful!!!
