Delivering Invitations

Is it rude to hand deliver some invites but not all? FI is just wanting to hand deliver the invites to his firehouse crew. I just don't want to create problems by having some invitations hand delivered and others just sent in the mail.

What is the ettiquette for this?

Re: Delivering Invitations

  • The only issue that comes into play is if you aren't inviting everyone at the firehouse.  People could see the invitations and then get their feelings hurt that they were left off the list.  It really would just be easiest and the best course if you mail them all.  This way they will go to the guests home rather then having potential issues at the work place.

  • What Maggie said.

Also, if someone handed my FI an invitation at work, would be a miracle if I ever saw it. These guys may be more on top of stuff though.

  • I think while you're fine ettiquette wise to hand them out, I also share Maggie's concerm.

Also, keep in mind that even if the invites are being hand delivered you should still get addresses for when you send thank you notes.
  • I totally didn't think about needing the addresses again for TY notes later as well. Mailing all the invites would definitely be better then. That way I can make sure we have all the addresses. Thank you!
  • Don't hand-deliver invitations in the presence of those who aren't invited.

And yeah, you're going to need mailing addresses for thank-you notes anyway.

So it makes more sense to just mail them.
  • Please don't do this. I come from personal experience. FI wanted to save on postage with our STD so he was going to hand out some of them….well a few months later half of them were still in the back seat of his car. Its just best to mail them and get them to their destination ASAP.
  • Mailing really is the best way to deliver an invitation.

I hand-delivered one to a co-worker, only because she was "couch surfing" at the time and her mailing address was our place of employment.
