final invite statement - looking for opinions

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to phrase the final statement that will appear at the bottom of my invites.  I'm not a fan of 'reception to follow'  (no offence).

Our 'reception', will in fact be a casual BBQ/Cake&punch party.  I'm going with a vintage theme throughout the wedding... so options are as follows:

1) Barbeque and Goodwill to follow
2) Barbeque and Celebration to follow.

I'm essentially going for a feeling of casual friendship/camaraderie like one would experience at a BBQ - but don't like the word camaraderie.. lol  I came up with Goodwill, by trying to portray the meaning of a gathering of friends and family to wish us well and celebrate with happiness.

Thoughts - or alternate wording suggestions ?!

Re: final invite statement - looking for opinions

  • for example a definition of Goodwill:  a kindly feeling of approval and support
  • Well, the point of "Reception to follow" is that one is not supposed to describe the hospitality provided after the ceremony in order not to create unrealistic expectations or give guests a reason in advance to decline your invitation.

But "Goodwill" sounds too much like the nonprofit and "Celebration" suggests that this is a party to celebrate a marriage that took place some time ago.

To be honest, I'd stick with "Reception to follow."

  • I am sorry, but if you must be descriptive (which isn't proper), neither phrase is a good idea.
I suggest "Barbeque reception to follow."

  • Our invites were (nontraditionally) worded "together with their families, Lolo and Lolo's FI invite you to share in their wedding ceremony and celebration" rendering any other closing statement unnecessary. Ceremony and reception are at the same place.

  • I wouldn't use "Goodwill". I was confused when I read it and immediately thought of the nonprofit or thought your "theme" was Goodwill. I think you will confuse a lot of people if you go this route. I like @CMGragain's wording.
