Do you like the idea of getting a free Wedding Planning To-Do List at a jewelry store?

Hello everyone!  I would really appreciate it if you could tell me your opinion on this.

If you were already engaged (or thinking about it), went into a jewelry store and saw they had free brochures featuring a "Wedding Planning To-Do List", would you take one?

Let's assume the brochures are tri-fold and fully illustrated.  The content would be very basic.  Please let me know if you would grab one.  Thank you!!

SAMPLE:

Wedding-To-Do Items:

___Set the date

___Create a guest list

___Decide who you’d like to be in your wedding party and invite them to participate

___Book your date with the catering hall and the ceremony location

___Hire the ceremony officiant

___Book the date with the wedding band or DJ

___Register with one or more wedding registries, at the store(s) of your choice

___Hire the wedding photographer

___Hire the wedding videographer

___Hire the caterer if one is not provided by the catering hall

  • No.

Not sure if this is allowed on these boards either.

  • Hi Chibiyui,

Thank you for your response.  Am I infringing any forum rules?  Please be assured it is not my intention to break any rules.  I am not selling nor offering anything.  I'm just asking people's opinion on such material.  It is a hypothetical scenario.
  • No, absolutely not.  I would think this was very presumptuous to receive at a jewellery store. There is plenty of material out there for people who would like to plan big traditional weddings, but it just seems like this is peddling the same overspend wedding industrial complex mentality. You don't HAVE to have calligrapher to get married, you don't HAVE to have a videographer. People who don't have limousines, catering hall venues  or florists are just as married as others. Absolutely NOTHING on that list is a necessary "to do" for planning a wedding other than an officiant and marriage license.

It just perpetuates the spend spend spend entitlement that is plaguing weddings these days.

Right, but getting these opinions is obviously for a business that you are involved in that is connected to the wedding industry. Your last post also asked about jewelry related items.  We are not stupid here.  You want to do research on what your jewelry store should do, ask people in your town or people that shop at your store. If you want to do that here, you have to follow the TOS, which states you cannot further or help your business through use of the message boards.  Reliable vendors do the right thing and pay for their ads and research.  If you want answers to your questions here, you need to contact the Knot and get permission before you can post.  Period.
    ROCK IS KING!!
  • No, because I know how to Google.

And please stop posting here. And your list sucks; there's no mention of budget.

    Hi Chibiyui,

Frankly, it is not my intention to argue with anyone here.  It just amazes how people are quick to make assumptions without any basis at all.  I never said that people here are stupid.  That comment of yours was quite unnecessary and probably says more about what you think about people here than what I think about them.  In fact, the reason I am asking this question here is because I believe most people in this forum are very informed and smart (based on the quality of the threads I've read, not on quick assumptions).

I honestly did not know I had a jewelry store :)   Seriously, if I had a jewelry store, I'd probably not have started this thread.  I do not own a jewelry store.  I do not own any business.  I agree that if you have a business you should have enough money to place ads but again, this is not the case here.

I don't want to be rude to you but I think it's not nice to make quick assumptions about people.  It's good to be polite and respectful.  Thank you.

Thank you.  I agree. I think the list is too simple.  It would probably be more attractive to include links to downloading videos on how to create wedding invitations and a Wedding Activity Book to keep children busy at the wedding reception.  Thanks again.

Very valuable advice.  Thanks a lot!

I think anything that you create would be completely pointless and big waste of your time.

All any bride needs today is access to a computer and the knowledge of how to Google.

This is very disingenuous. If I came on here and asked: Hypothetically, would you like it if I gave you a yellow bag or a green bag when you went to a clothing store? The logical conclusion is: I own a clothing store and am deciding between yellow and green bags.

The fact that you have asked about jewellery/ jewellery stores on multiple boards leads us to either think a.) you are a business student doing research about it or b.) you own a store and want free market research. Both are against the ToS.

It doesn't have to do with being polite or respectful, it has to do with having a functioning brain and drawing logical conclusions.

Please enlighten us as to why you are asking very obviously worded market research questions that are not about market research?

So then explain to us why the two posts you have are asking questions related to purchases made  and experiences at a jewelry store?

    You don't seem to understand.

If you are a vendor, you can't post market research/ads here.  You need to pay for that.
If you are a student, you can't post questions for papers here.  You need to stand outside a jewelry store and ask the patrons.  A store owner would not let you do that without prior approval.  Same thing here.  You need approval from the Knot Gods that you can clog our boards with your research paper questions.

I find it really hard to believe that, out of all the questions you could ask about planning a wedding, this is the one you pick out of the air. And it is not even a question about wedding planning.  It is a question  a student (not allowed) or a vendor (not allowed) would ask.

    ROCK IS KING!!
  • I would be offended and walk out. I'm perfectly capable of planning a wedding without useless crappy handouts from a jeweler.

Hahahaha.  So not only is OP incapable of following the Terms of Service... but also incapable of simple reading comprehension?  That was not Chibiyui's response.

    Go home please, vendor.
