To Airbrush or To Not Airbrush...That is the Question

I have always been under the assumption that airbrush is way better than traditional makeup. Recently, as I have been getting quotes, some makeup artists are telling me that airbrush shows more imperfections unless you have flawless skin, streaks easier if you care crying, can't be fixed as easily, and doesn't last. What have been your experiences? I feel so conflicted now!

  • Wait you have HMUAs telling you airbrush DOESNT last? Who have you gotten that information from?? A lot of it is personal preference. FWIW I'm doing airbrush, don't have flawless skin, and have every confidence that it will last.

  • This is literally what it said "A few things to keep in mind about air brushed makeup. We generally use airbrush makeup  for editorial shoots, and even then, only when the model will be in makeup for a short time. We usually discourage our brides, for a few reasons.  One, you must have flawless skin, as airbrush tends to enhance any imperfections. Two, crying can leave a streak in the makeup. Airbrushed makeup can not be blended back in or buffed like other makeup mediums. Once the makeup has been compromised, there's no fixing it. Three, it is not good for the long haul. Your makeup needs to look fabulous for up to 10-12 hours, we cannot make that guarantee with the airbrush."

The artist was "MakingUp Las Vegas." Then I found this blog from Amelia C: http://amelia-c.com/airbrush-makeup-vs-traditional-makeup-artists-perspective/

  • I don't typically wear a lot of make up, but I did airbrush for my wedding and I loved it!  I went to the salon at the Mirage and the make up artist described it 'photoshopping my face'.  I got it done at around 3 and it lasted all night.  Do you have anywhere nearby that you can test it out?
We had our dream wedding at Mirage on May 3, 2014!

  • Wow I have to completely disagree! I absolutely loved my airbrush make up I never looked so great! And it last well into the next day and I was out in 95 degree heat in the day and out partying all night, on top of that I cried a good amount right before walking down the aisle. I wouldn't worry at all I would recommend getting air brush :)

  • I saw this post and was having makeup done for my engagement photos yesterday so I thought I would ask the makeup artist what he thought... he said that it's great for weddings and pretty much the opposite of what the people who quoted you said! So Strange!

  • I barely wear foundation and got airbrush done for my wedding. I absolutely loved it and it lasted from 8am through the night. I did not notice an imperfections related to the makeup in my pictures. If you're not getting a trial done, I think you should go for it - just based on my own personal experience. Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone! I decided airbrush is going to be best :)

  • I'm glad you decided to go for it. I was about to say these people are full of it.

My MOH and I both had airbrushed makeup, and it was perfect. Like Kiki said, it's almost impossible to remove that stuff. Mine lasted all day and night, even when crying, and it still looked good when I woke up the next day. All I had to do was reapply my mascara and lipstick.
  • Where are good places in Vegas to have airbrush done? Preferably someone who will come to our suite?

There are tons of hmua that will do airbrush and come to you room. Check out vegasgrooms website. I also looked for reviews on some other wedding sites. The thing about airbrush makeup, is the quality can vary just like regular make up. So it's important to find someone who will use high quality products. Airbrush make up is more of an application process over a different type of make up. It leaves a very smooth and lighter finish. Which is great in the hot vegas weather to prevent that caking feeling. I have read, that it can be less than ideal for people with skin types that are more aged or need more coverage because applied lighter. It's longevity will again, depend on the quality of product. It's would be similar to a make up artist using walmart makeup vs using Mac or other higher end products. Getting airbrush isn't always going to be better, it depends largely on your quality of Hmua. I spent hours reading and searching reviews before deciding, what was the deciding factor for me was a personal friend recommending one of my top choices.
  • I've booked Leila with sincity makeup. Her before and after were amazing and after following her on FB you can tell she loves what she does and it shows in her work. Also shes done some pretty big names. I'm very excited! She was a little pricey but hey it's Vegas baby.
  • Harmony came to our suite and airbrushed me and my MOH. My mother and MIL opted for regular makeup.
