japan!!!

we have decided on japan.....

we are looking at cruises that leave out of tokyo.... any experience with these? any japan suggestions?

thanks!

Re: japan!!!

  • Where would the cruise go (what ports)? I just spent 6 days in Tokyo and 2 in Kyoto and it was fantastic. I loved it but I needed all that time and more to see everything. I would not go all the way to Tokyo just to leave on a ship the next day.

Harajuku section is awesome- it has the girls dressed up in the costumes like the old Gwen Stefani music videos. Shibuya Crossing is the coolest place ever. It's like there version od Times Square. It's also an intersection where the second the pedestrian "walk" signal goes off, hundreds of people pour into the street. There's a Starbucks on the second floor where you can just sit and watch it, so neat. Observation deck, Meji Shrine, Tsukiji fish market. There are a million things. Kyoto has the old world Japanese gardens, temples, old palaces of royalty.

  • Ditto Jenna.  I wouldn't fly all the way to Tokyo just to get on a boat.  There is a ton to see in Japan-take the time to do it!  Tell us more about what kind of honeymoon you're looking for-maybe some of these ladies will have ideas.

  • thanks all!

yes, we are looking at Princess.... not sure of the dates yet, several months after the wedding, so sometime in 2015.... we're pretty open.

we are definitely planning on spending likely 3 days in Tokyo alone at the end of the cruise. we are looking for something relaxing (so the cruise) with some adventure (the ports) and culture for sure .....

other cruises leave from Otaru and Kobe.... any experience with these?

    happy weekend!
  • I have been on 13 Princess cruises.  They are my favorite mid range cruise line.  Their entertainment is very good, and we have had super lecturers on board who have talked about a variety of interests, including local culture and ports.  The food is very good.   They give you the option of pre-selecting
and reserving your shore excursions without paying for them in advance,  HAL makes you pay at the time you reserve,
