  • I think I'm going to get my dress there this week. I was hoping to find one for $99 but nothing I loved. I ended up trying one on that was the opposite of what I was looking for (I wanted a short dress with a sweetheart neckline), but I loved how it fit me. I went to a few other places after that but nothing compared to that dress. It's on sale for $299, regular $499. I'm just hoping if I do get it that I can find a good seamstress for the alterations as I've heard David's alterations are super expensive.
  • I was lucky enough to find one of the 99 dollar ones. I don't thing I am going to get it altered. Wasn't what I was looking for either, but I'm happy with it.

  • @kitt29, I think you're going to be WAY better off finding a seamstress elsewhere. I ended up NOT buying my dress at David's but I tried on a bunch there. They wouldn't even do a sweetheart neckline for me because it was against their "policy they have with designers." WTH? Seriously? Plus, they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for very simple alterations (hem, darts at bust). I ended up going to a local seamstress I found in TK vendor pages and she is basically redesigning my whole dress for me. It's not cheap but I paid next to nothing for my dress so I'm still way ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned. If you don't have too many alterations to make, you will be able to get it done cheaper, and most likely much better than at David's if you look for another seamstress. I know it may not apply to everyone who has ever had their dress altered at David's but I've heard MANY horror stories about shoddy work and outrageous quotes for alterations there. I've heard that they can sell the dresses at reasonable prices because they try to stick you for more money knowing you'll most likely need some tailoring.

  • @ dbacksgirl, thank you! The one alteration I was considering the salesgirl said they won't even do there. I wanted a short dress but have looked everywhere the past few months (the only few I've found are online and from China & I've heard horror stories about a lot of those sites) and haven't found what I want. The one at David's is long but I'm considering either making it short or possibly a hi-low if a seamstress will do it. I don't want to put a ton of money into it and I do love the dress so I may keep it long. But the other thing I wanted was a sweetheart neckline! I hadn't even asked them about that because I figured I wouldn't be using them. Interesting they won't even do that for you! I'm now on a search for a good seamstress, I hadn't thought to ask on the local board here, thanks for that tip! Congrats on finding your dress (especially at such a fabulous price)!!
  • Definitely check on here, both on the message boards (not sure where you live but start a thread on your city's board) and in the local vendor area.  I went to http://wedding.theknot.com/local-wedding-vendors.aspx and searched "Bridal fashions" to find my lady and she's been a lifesaver!  Good luck! :)
