I'm back! ... Did I do something wrong? WR

It's been awhile... Shits done changed here huh! So I got married on 1/11/14 (on my phone so can't post pics... But I swear it happened!).

So here's my beef...

We got married in siesta key fl on a private beach. Only immediate family and my children were there (14 people total including us). So my H and I paid for everyone's flight both ways, private resort for the night for each couple, transportation from the airport to the resort, dinner after the ceremony, all drinks ordered, etc etc. We even made sure everyone had transportation back to the airport the next afternoon (which was difficult since everyone had different timed flights home).

So fast forward a couple of months and my H's mom called him complaining she had to buy lunch the next day before getting on the plane home. My H was shocked and told her "we paid for everything! Are you kidding me!?". She's brought this up a couple times in the last few months too. Not to me but I can hear her on the phone.

Should we have given the fam cash for food the next day as well? Did we do something wrong here? If so I'll apologize. I need the honest answers you ladies always give!

Side note: totally miss it here. Think there's room for another old hag?

  • You most certainly did not do anything wrong. If she's upset that she had to pay for one small meal out of an entire weekend (that sounds amazing, by the way!), then she's the one that's wrong. Sounds like a peach. I agree with the reimbursement in pennies.

I spot two wrongs, here: the first is MIL's tacky feelings of entitlement. The second, which is even worse IMO, is the gall she had to actually call someone and bring it up.

    Eek.

  • Wow. Not much to say beyond that. Well, other than congratulations!

  • Thanks y'all. That's what I thought at first as well but the more she complained, the more I started second guessing myself.

She's always been sweet to me, yet she and H have issues. My FIL actually said, right after the ceremony, "I always wanted a daughter instead of a son".

I keep out of the mother/son drama as much as possible but once I heard her complaints... I took it personally!

  • I'm not a fan of DWs because then just cost people so much money but it sounds like you really went above and beyond for a beautiful wedding and it sounds like your MIL is cheap and tacky.

Holy sh*t, she is an insane person. You went way above and beyond any kind of hosting obligation, and she's bitching about lunch? Nutter.

Wow, you two were incredibly generous (all you were "required" to pay for was the ceremony, reception, and costs for yourself and H).  What an ungrateful bitch.

Love, love, love Siesta Key! Great little town, good choice! SO she likes you better? Weird.

I know but if we didn't pay all costs then no one would've been able to be there, and we really wanted our family by our sides!

Turned out about the same cost wise believe or not. We were going to have a big wedding locally but we realized after some real thought that we'd rather go simpler. Take out venue costs, dj, reception hall, caterer, etc it really was close in price!

Unfortunately I think she does. Her and H are always at eachothers throats. I don't think she has a problem with me, but when I heard her bitch I took it that she did.

You been too!? Not many people I talk to know of it. I went once 5 years ago and now I'm hooked! I go there too much now. Isn't it just fucking paradise! I'm stuck in what upstate NY calls "summer" and I just wanna leave again...

ETF quote boxes still not fixed eh?

  • Don't suppose you always buy her lunch and just missed this one day?!?!
  • WTF
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Your MIL is unreal.
  • Well, doesn't she just sound like a delight!  The guilt-tripping is UNREAL.  Your MIL needs a hobby that doesn't revolve around lunch.

That wedding sounded so lovely!  Congrats :)

Yes, loved it, I want to go back so bad. My MOH got married down there. We loved every bit. We also spent way too much time at the Daiquiri Deck, which by the time I left I was trying to convince them to have a frozen Cuba Libre (rum and Coke with a hint of lime) and change their name to Daiquiri Shackery.

Is your MIL always this tacky about money, or does she just not have any sort of drama going on in her life and she got bored?
