Wedding Party

I hate my bridesmaid dresses...

My sister and I went and tried on dresses for the wedding party. We loved the dress I ordered and the color she tried on was black. My colors are red, pink, and natural browns...etc. so we ordered the dress in a bright red...or I thought. I saw the swatch and it looked right on. So I have my other bridesmaids also order the dress. My sister's dress just came in and OH NO! The color is not what I envisioned at all! It doesn't even look flattering like before. My other bridesmaid haven't recieved their dresses. Do I choke it up and accept these dresses and make it work? Ordered them from David's Bridal and not sure if they would do an exchange? Is it rude to have them get a new dress even if I help foot some costs? Also my wedding is less then 3 months so I gotta figure this out! Anyone else deal with something like this???

  • Before you do anything else, call David's Bridal to ask them if they will do an exchange since the dresses haven't come in yet. If they say yes, good. If they say no, you should make the color work. If your sister picked up her dress, she is most likely stuck with it. Your MOH and bms should only have to pay for one dress.

  • Pretty much what MairePoppy said.  If you do decide to go with new dresses then you should foot the entire bill, not just some of the bill.  You shouldn't punish your BMs by making them buy new dresses just because don't like the color the current dresses came in.

What red from DB did you pick?  Honestly, unless it was like a completely different color (like lime green) then I am sure that the dresses will work.  Not everything in your wedding has to be the exact same color (for example it is fine if some of your reds are lighter or darker or brighter then others...the fact that they are all in the red family will make them work).

  • David's Bridal will probably let you do an exchange.

If you can't do an exchange, just take a deep breath and make it work.  My two FSIL are my flower girls and live a few states away...we talked a lot about the color I was envisioning, I sent pictures, etc.  When I saw them a couple weeks ago at my bridal shower, they were so proud to show me their dresses!....and they aren't the color I had in mind at all, haha.  But they love how they look and feel in them, and the shade of red their dresses are aren't going to ruin my day, so that's not the hill I'm gonna die on.

Whatever you do, definitely do not make them buy a new dress.

  • Which dress and color is it that you ordered, what color/style would you like instead, and when do you need it by? I work for DB so I might have some insight.
  • I've read a couple of posts that they will give you a store credit (not refund) if the dress you have problems with is something that is part of their regular stock and not something that has been discontinued.
  • Does the dress that came match the swatch they gave you? Is it a problem with the production, or did you just not envision it the same from a swatch to a full dress? That will probably determine what DB will do. This is really up to you. DB can order dresses quickly, so replacing with 3 months to go is fine. If the dresses really bother you, you can reorder them in a different color. You are on the hook for 100% of the price difference, though. You can't ask your BMs to pay any more than what they already have. If you can't afford a new set of dresses and DB won't exchange, you're stuck with what you have.
  • Thanks everyone has been so helpful. I think at first I was just freaking out and not thinking clearly through everything. Trying to get a hold of a DB rep and see in that path. For the most part I have been so easy going with everything so first freak out and probably not last with the time coming near.
