edited June 2014 in Chit Chat
So I went dress shopping for the first time on Tuesday evening (I would have updated sooner, but I had a gong show of a Wednesday with a grad party and a ton of drama, but that's another story). As I'm a big girl, I was... I guess scared is the best word for what I was feeling.

I went and tried on a few dresses, and my consultant told me I'd need one with sleeves because my arms are "not compatible with a sleeveless dress". So apparently my arms are fat, no big deal. But I'm wearing a sleeveless dress because fuck everyone who thinks my arms are too fat for a sleeveless dress.

Anyway. I found 3 dresses I like. There are two dresses I am absolutely in love with, if I could cute them and have the top of one dress and the bottom of the other. Just thought I'd share my experience and see if anyone has any thoughts!

ETA: The Knot is a paragraph stealer.

The consultant sounds like a rude bitch. Wear what you love!

Do you have pics of your two favorites?

  • WTF
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Oh, by the way, I have been meaning to tell you I love your username and am planning to use that phrase in a poem (no, not a cute poem for mockery on here) or something else I write.

  • I'm in the wear what you want camp. In the end your opinion is the one that matters, especially when it comes to YOUR wedding dress.
  • The only "sleeves" I've seen on dresses in the last 20 years have been of the tank top variety!

This lady needs a new line of work.

  • your consultant sounds crappy. What are you, a software upgrade? Don't listen to people like that!

  • She was actually like, 90 years old (not that there's anything wrong with that) and they had double booked consultants so I didn't have her full attention, but still.

@elcaB (I can't tell if it's EI or EL, sorry :) ) I have pictures but you can't see the detail in them. :( **

@AddieCake Thank you! My younger sister and I have it tattoed behind our ears because she's deaf, and caught a lot of flack for it in school. I kept telling her, I love you and love is louder. :)

ETA because I can't type today.
I don't know what the phrase is from but now I have to swim out of my office.

  • That woman shouldn't be allowed in a bridal shop.

Wear what you love. You'll look gorgeous in whatever you choose.

Also, I love your tattoo! It sounds just perfect!

  • Buy whatever the heck you want that makes you feel beautiful! Just don't buy it from that bitch of a consultant. She does not deserve a commission.

  • What a terrible consultant! I'm plus size and anybody who told me I couldn't wear whatever the fuck I want would get the Flipping the Bird Dance.

  • Ugh wear what you love fuck her! Lol it seems it is not a good week for wedding dress shopping! I spontaneously went to a store on tuesday and LOVED a dress. Well I went in today to see if I could order it or at least get the name and code to find more pictures and the lady was a super rude bitch. She wouldnt tell me information so. I could go compare prices at another store, she would let me order it even though it is a size too small for me, she kept giving me unsolicited opinions and critizising my tastes and ugh i just wanted to to tell to to STFU. So I feel you!! Share pictures if possible!!

How awful! A consultant is there to help you find something that you look your best in, of course! But if you are picking out strapless gowns to try on then they should keep their big mouths shut because it is obviously what you are interested in and you feel confident in rockin! Plus, I don't think I have ever seen a bride and thought "Oh, she should have on straps"...like...ever? Wear what YOU want because whatever you feel the best in will make you shine that much brighter on your big day! ETA because paragraphs. ugh. WHERE ARE THEY!

  • Oh fuck that cunt faced whore of a consultant. Wear what makes you happy and makes you feel gorgeous.

Also very happy to hear that you did find two dresses you loved and I love the story about your sister and you and you're s/n.
