Two electricians getting wed, would be a shame not to theme it.....help!

My fiancé and I are both electricians, and I feel it would be a waste not to discreetly theme it at the reception. But I'm struggling for inspiration. So far I have converted an old ceramic and brass light switch into a trinket box to hold the rings and I have started to make a buzz game with the wire in the shape of our initials. I'm desperate for any help, ideas for favours, or signs etc? Please help us Many thanks Nic x

  • I don't know much about electrician work, but when I think of electricians, I think of light bulbs.  Here's what I found on google.

If you're thinking about signage, what about using lyrics from some of the following songs?
    • You Light Up My Life (LeAnn Rimes)
    • When the Lights Go Out (5ive)
    • Blinded By the Light (Manfred Mann)
    • Electric Slide
    • Sparks (Coldplay) > This is one of my favorites.
    And, in general:
    • Sparklers
    • Sky lanterns
    • Incorporating light bulbs/sparks/wiring graphics on wedding stationery

In typical Jersey Girl fashion, I have to point out that Manfred Mann only covered that song - it was written and originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen. MM butchered the lyrics horribly. HORRIBLY.

  • I love the idea of using light bulbs and wire shown above. If you can find plastic ones, even better because easier to handle

I am terribly embarrassed right now. Truth be told, I didn't realize Bruce sang it and was just Googling song titles so I could accredit the artists properly. Thanks for the correction!

  • I don't know what they're called but I love the lightbulbs that look old fashioned with the copper wire that lights up. Edison lights maybe?

I love the idea of strings of these if you're getting married outside.

I also keep thinking about fuse boxes but I can't think of exactly what to do with it yet. Still pondering...

Love Edison bulbs. I have eight strings ready! They cast a really flattering light, andthe bulbs last forever. I have one in my living room that's been functioning for three years.

Don't be embarrassed! It wasn't actually a hit for Bruce, so most people had no idea he wrote/recorded it first. The only reason I even know is because I'm a pretty big fan. I prefer Bruce's version even though it's wordier and has an almost folksy feel to it despite the horns in the background. It really falls in line with a lot of his earlier stuff, which was just plain good story-telling.

  • Wow thank you guys, some great ideas there. I especially like the lightbulb vases and the table numbers using copper wire and insulators. I'm gonna check with the venue about the sparklers too, I hope they say yes!! Thanks again guys Nic x

Not a "cute signage" fan, but I don't see why you couldn't play those songs and have the other things listed here.
  • Don't forget Electric Feel by MGMT  and Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant!

Love all the cute ideas here
