Coffee Bar--what to include?

We are setting up a little coffee bar to have out when cake is served. What are some things we should include? I've got a couple of flavored syrups, sugar, a shaker of cinnamon, a few creamers, chocolate shavings...anything obvious I'm missing? Any other creative ideas?

(Other than alcohol, LOL, we're only having beer and wine!)

  • ......yeah, I was gonna say Baileys.

    And whipped cream.

  • You have everything I could think of. Have you thought about including tea though? We have a lot of tea drinkers in my family so we need both.

Will you be serving coffee or espresso drinks? If just coffee, it almost sounds like it will be too much, unless someone from catering would be the one mixing. I feel a lot of people wouldn't know what to do with syrups.

One thing I would add would be colorful sugar stir sticks opposed to just straight sugar. Adds a bit of whimsy and color.

  • Maybe include hot chocolate and tea for people who don't like coffee?
  • Ditto on including tea.
  • Decaf too, don't forget!

I think you've covered it all, but mosey on into your local favorite coffee shop and do some reconnaissance.

Caribou (now Pete's mostly) always had really fun stuff, like S'Mores lattes and whatnot.  I'd recommend putting out some biscuits too (and by biscuits I mean small cookies primarily for dipping in coffee).

    Yes, decaf please!

    WHIPPED CREAM!

Also, I'd suggest half & half, regular milk, and soy milk as well as a few different types of sweeteners --- some people are really particular about that.

  • I'd say also sweetner like Splenda or something.
  • I like cappuccino mix and milk with my coffee so make sure you have things like that! But I guess I'm picky

    SPLENDA FOR THE WIN!

  • Ditto the assortment of sweeteners.

I love the flavored syrups - I don't think people would have a hard time knowing what to do with them. If people can be trusted with them at a 7-11 without professional help, they'll be fine for your wedding.

Definitely real cream and skim milk, maybe non-dairy creamer (or coconut milk creamer, yum!), raw sugar, Splenda, Equal, honey, cinnamon, that powdered vanilla shaker stuff they have at coffee shops, maybe the teeny dried marshmallow shaker... I like the suggestion of having the rock candy sticks as your sugar, too. And I would totally steal the sweetener packets from the gas station. I'm that old lady who takes the teeny jam jars from hotels.

And tea and cocoa with hot water.

  • I don't think we're going to be able to do the tea and cocoa. We are in a community hall-type place, and we are doing this totally separate from our caterer (it'll be after they leave). We have a couple of the big percolator coffee makers, but nothing to do the hot water with.

Thanks for all the other suggestions! Now I just need to figure out where to find everything...
  • Oh, and just for anyone else who might read this:

I wanted some cute little glass jars to use for the cream and stuff, but had a hard time finding them cheaply. Solution: I bought some of those Starbucks Frappucinos you can get at the grocery store. I actually let my sister drink them all, then just peeled off the labels and used a little Goo-Gone. I'm spraying the lids with chalkboard paint to label them.
  • I would really do tea or hot chocolate. Can you rent one of those stand alone hot water dispensers (I'm sure they have a real name, but I don't know what it is) or ask the caterer if they have one you can use and put a deposit on?

  • We're in a very rural area, dealing with a small caterer. There really aren't rental places to get things like that from. The caterer doesn't offer tea as an option on their menu at all, so I'm guessing that won't work either. I will ask them, though...
  • You can use a percolater coffee maker to make hot water. Just don't put any coffee grounds in it and voila, water for tea or coffee.

  • I agree, I don't drink coffee or tea and would prefer hot chocolate if possible. I think those do make just hot water if you don't put grounds in them but if you really can't do it, I'd settle for some chocolate milk on ice.

This. If you have a couple of them, I would do one coffee and one hot water. If you were planning on using the second one for decaf, you could do instant.

  • Another person who doesn't drink coffee (love the smell, hate the taste no matter how much sugar, creamer, etc is in it). I do like many kinds of tea (often with milk) and hot chocolate. I would not partake if it was only coffee and it seems like it's not too uncommon to not enjoy coffee. Then again, that's my choice not to drink it.

"They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, 'Search for Paradise.' " - Kiba, Wolf's Rain

  • The only thing I'd worry about with using one of the percolators for hot water is that they've been HEAVILY used for coffee (from church and used every Sunday), and I know that can affect the taste of the water run through it. Thanks for all you opinions though. I've been thinking all day about the best way to get tea or hot chocolate.
  • Maybe try asking around for something for hot water. My mom needed something for hot water for a party and a friend of grandma actually had one she borrowed.
