How much food??

We are still in a great debate about our food situation.  We have a favorite restaurant that has fabulous food.  However, they don't do full service catering.  We started looking into their pick up catering and hiring a company to do things such as setting up and serving the food.  My question is this, if we have three meal choices (one seafood pasta, one chicken dish, one beef dish) and we had 100 people, how many portions of each to we get?  It will be buffet style.  4-5PM ceremony start time, 1 hour cocktail reception with ceremony/dinner start time of 5-6PM.  There will be appetizers served during the cocktail hour.  Everything is at the same location.

Re: How much food??

  • I'd say: the restaurant is probably the place to talk to... they should have experience on how much to make of each for your 100 guests. (I guess you need more chicken than beef and more beef than seafood).
    What about a vegetarian option?
  • Yeah your venue will likely have a much better idea of how much food people typically go through. Keep in mind that people tend to want some of each at a buffet, and tend to over-serve themselves compared to what a caterer might dish out. So don't be surprised if they tell you something like 100 servings of chicken and 60 servings of beef and 40 servings of fish, or something that adds up to way more than you think you'd need.

You need to add a vegertarian option.

Consult with the restaurant but I would do something like 75 chicken, 40 beef, 40 seafood, and 25 veg.

  • We changed food vendors because we couldn't really accomplish what we needed to with them. Our new package has chicken Chesapeake and roast beef with tools, salad, green almandine and roasted red potatoes. Plus the appetizers. It's a package deal.

Will any vegetarians just have potatoes and beans as their entree?
