Group Discounts on Flights

Has anyone tried anything like this?  I know Southwest does a group discount, but I'm not sure how it works...

    I have tried through American. Most companies only offer it if you have 10+ people flying on the same flight. American does still have a program but it seems confusing (you can do a flat rate or something like that).

    I don't know if all our guests are flying on the same days... that might be too hard to coordinate...

    Yea that's what I was thinking. American used to do it but not that they merged with US Airways they don't do it. They stopped offering the wedding discount as of May 1, 2014.

    I don't know that I'd want to try to coordinate everyone's schedule and all of the legwork involved to book.

    I attempted to do it since we had about 20 people flying on the same day but the group fares were more than Southwest's wanna get away fares so it was useless.

    I found that the site www.southwest.com was lower priced than when I called into the group booking option.  And it was only for airfare so once you added the hotel, it was almost double from the prices listed on their site.  And this may just be me but I found better prices on southwest.com and going to the new Jack Pot deal section; instead of going to www.southwestvacations.com <---  this has higher prices.  Weird.

    The one nice part about the "group booking" through Southwest is only a portion of it is due 2 weeks after you put a hold on the seats you need, and the final portion is due I closer to when you leave, so it cuts up the payment. 

     

    I also found on smartervegas.com to have amazing promo codes!  We got our Planet Hollywood rooms for way lower than even southwest was offering.
