Shoes - care to help me?

So clearly my mom and I have differing opinions on what goes into a pair of shoes. I view a pair of shoes as something that covers your feet in order to not step on sharp rocks or broken glass. She thinks my shoes need to be pretty since they will be visible below my dress (knee-tea length). So far we've managed to in theory square on things like these:

My mom feels the shoes need to be silver, white, or ivory; I'm willing to entertain teal (tending to blue-green as opposed to green-blue) as well. I would prefer flats partly because I have bad ankles that roll a lot. I have not learned how to walk in stilettos and don't want to learn for my wedding. Low heels or things with good platforms are highly preferred. 3" maximum. And I'm a cheapskate - an unrepentant cheapskate.

Can anyone find anything?

@keptinstiches I like them too! A slingback will help you with walking in heels too (I only started wearing heels in my 20's and it was all trial and error learning).

WEDGES. I have super rolly ankles. A short wedge is often more comfortable than a flat. And flats and wedges alike can be so pretty.

I second the recommendation for wedges! They are life savers! Let me do some Googling and get back to you. I really like the idea of teal shoes if you can find them.

I also recommend wedges and color! I adore short wedding dresses and part of why I love them so much is that you can see the bride's shoes and it's a fun way to add a pop of color!

ETA: I love all the shoes @LaPeanut1018 linked to and now I want to buy them all!

Honestly, I see your mom's point. My FMIL suggested a tea length or short dress. I said "I don't want to have to worry about pretty shoes. With a long dress I can wear ugly comfortable ones."

BUT, I think there are certainly pretty shoes that are comfortable, they're just harder to find.

Something like THIS would be really pretty for the teal shoes, but holy balls they're expensive.

OK, I'm striking out on the wedges. Closed toe wedges aren't easy to find apparently. There are a ton of white kitten heels at Macy's though that are $50-$60 that would work too.

I will have to take the teal shoes to FI and ask which ones are "teal." I swear to you, his Crayola box and mine don't align on that color. I know it's somewhere between grass and sky, but my colors are all off now for whatever reason. How is it he sees that color better than I do?

Searching for "teal" brought up a ton of different colors. Some were really blue, some were closer to green or a mint color, and some were almost grey. I didn't realize teal was such a vague color either!

And see, that's what I thought teal was too. Apparently, though, teal is everything from slightly bluey-green to slightly greeney-blue. I'm going to make him give me hex code for the color soon. :-P

Someone else may have posted these, but I think they would be pretty with your dress. I also highly suggest staying away from white or silver with a white dress. Too much chance that they are just 'slightly' off.

I had a teal wedding and had a pantone swatch in my wedding notebook. It was incredibly helpful to keep referring back to the same swatch.

Thanks for all your help! If I get a pair of slingback shoes, should I consider ordering half a size smaller than my usual? I have a narrow foot and hover usually between an 8 or 8.5; in everyday shoes I get an 8.5.

In "dressy" shoes, as in, heels, I often end up getting a half size smaller than I would in sneakers. Usually I'll get a 6 1/2 or 7 in dress shoes, 7 or 7 1/2 in sneakers. But I was gifted a pair of frye boots which I believe are an 8 1/2, and they fit. A 7 would be way too small. So, it is definitely brand dependent, but if ordering online, I would go with a size 8 to start. ps- I have wide feet. Don't know if that changes things...

I usually do a half size smaller in dress shoes. Are you ordering online? If so, what's the return policy? If it's free returns, you could just order both and return the one that doesn't fit.
