casual wedding invitation wording help

I am having a small (30 people, mostly family) Sunday morning, with brunch to follow, wedding. I am trying to keep the wording of the invitation fairly casual. Oh, and we are paying for it with nearly no help from family.

My formal name is "Catherine" but my whole life I have gone by "Katie" (except for 7th grade when I thought I'd try out Catherine but it turned out to be a disaster). I was toying around with opening the invitation with::

Katie Elizabeth
Daughter of mom & dad
and
Mark David
Son of mom & dad
are tying the knot!

Does that seem appropriate or does it sound weird to use Katie rather than Catherine? Remember, we are not going a formal route at all with our wedding!

Thanks!

Re: casual wedding invitation wording help

  • Thanks for your advice! I think the rest of it will go:

We delightfully request the pleasure of your company
to affirm with your friendship & love
the start of our lives as Mr. & Mrs.

Come celebrate with us on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 10:30 am
    at the [venue].

    Brunch & Festivities to follow!

Do you still think this feels much too casual? When I showed it to my FI he said it sounded "too serious" but quickly followed up with "but I've never read a wedding invitation before".

  • We're not going the formal route either... as far as black tie and all that jazz is concerned. But I think even a backyard barbeque wedding can still have the standard wedding invitation wording and the casual part comes from the invite design and color.

I just did the standard and simple invite...you could do a simple:

    Together with their families
    Bride
    and
    Groom

Request the honor of your company as they are joined in love, friendship and marriage
    date
    time
    place
    etc
